Burnham speech: An astonishing moment of radicalism and commitment
It’s easy to be cynical, but it would be false. Something extraordinary is happening here.

I wanted a PM of Carney's calibre/Zelensky's charisma & cojones. Now, against all odds, we seem to have one. “I accept I may pay a political price. But someone has to go through the pain barrier and rip the plaster off.” Loving Andy Burnham.

What means this picture? A BIG life change for me, & the giving up of something I thought would never grow old (being a professional gob on a stick). Find out more on my blog page herstorywriting.com 😁

Did you know that a Farage Reform govt intends to scrap the NHS? The private health care system he wants to introduce would cost you £10,000s, like the US, where getting ill can bankrupt you.

Changing Seasons: Reflections on my Autumn of Life
Traditionally seen as a time of fruition and closure, the gathering in of harvests, fall of leaves, and shutting down of Nature for winter, for me autumn means New Year, a season of challenge and change, an excitement of darkening nights and twinkly lights. New academic terms, new jobs, new homes, new friends and hobbies, meeting and marrying Hubcap, founding my…

Detest data centres? Reduce demand by changing digital behaviour! Avoid generative AI. Purge all junk, obsolete files, duplicate/crap photos etc. I'm currently de-cluttering my laptop, pulling stuff out of Cloud, & reverting to memory sticks for the little stuff I need to keep. Feels so good! 😁

Great summary & analysis by @iandunt.bsky.social of a disgraceful situation. Please read, then write to your MP & demand action - I'm just about to. iandunt.substack.com/p/british-jo...
British journalism and polling are both utterly implicated in the Farage funding scandal
We've spent plenty of time talking about Nigel Farage, but evidently the rot goes much deeper.

Got osteo-arthritis? Consider hyaluronic acid injections. Had one in my hip 2 weeks ago - virtually painless, has outperformed all expectations of pain/stiffness reduction & increased mobility - & unlike steroids, can be repeated for as long as it continues to work. Brilliant. 😀👍

Indeed.
Astonishing this needs to be said and defended in 2026. But here we are.
Since its foundation in 1824 the bravery of Royal National Lifeboat Institution volunteers has saved more than 146,700 lives at sea.
Hundreds of those volunteers have died attempting to save others. They are the best of us.

Modest brag: yesterday, I picked, washed & froze a punnet of elderberries; picked, cooked & squished a colander of grapes into a litre of juice + 4 jars of jel-ish (it hasn't set v well but still tastes good); made 5 jars of divinely hot apple/chili chutney; AND cooked dinner. 😇
