and with it, much of our economy. our grandkids will I hope say: you had millions of people who wanted to work and you didn't let them? you had people spend years learning new knowledge and made them throw it all away to do whatever the market demanded in the short term? why? why?

Namely, it's the Andreesen nihilist types who have the ear of the White House right now, and they are a grave danger-- even in entirely prosaic terms, in terms of job losses, economic disruption, cyber security. They're less fun to talk about since they aren't interesting. I worry

thinking about a book on Qing legal history I read years ago that mentioned tricking the magistrate's rickshaw into coming to a stop so you could foist a case upon them was a not infrequent legal strategy

(I should say antitrust interpretation and enforcement, since the laws are still on the books, which is at least one cause for optimism)

the watering down of antitrust from an operationalization of these big concerns about economic concentration to "does it help consumer prices?" has been a real catastrophe

have been told that if I want to reach more people (and thus sell books or newsletter subs-- currently the only ways I get research $) I have to be on Instagram or tiktok-- but how? putting aside the difficulty of short form video as a format, nearly everything I study trips the "bad words" censor
