ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.”

We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words.

It's bizarre how repeatedly people keep hijacking the conversation about Accessibility away from things like closed captioning, colorblindness support, alt-text for screen-readers, etc, to "Games should be easier to play, books should be easier to read, and shows should be simple to understand"

A Chicago tenant union went on rent strike after learning their once-affordable building would be converted into luxury apartments.

What followed became a story about eviction, settlement agreements, press freedom and the right to organize.

No editor is excited to deal with threatening lawyers representing an unhappy article subject. But last fall @shelterforce.bsky.social encountered something worse—a landlord trying to take tenants to court for having talked to us in the past. So we did what journalists do—wrote a story about it.

Update: the tenants in this case have asked for a preliminary injunction to keep their housing past August of this year.

I’m in court today as lawyers argue the case and tenants testify. Follow along for more.

NEW for @shelterforce.bsky.social
The Belden Sawyer Tenants Association in Chicago’s Logan Square launched an ambitious rent strike. While members lost their apartments, they gained solidarity and a determination to fight gentrification.

NEW for @nextcity.org
I've been wanting to report on Kansas City's Lykins Neighborhood since I read about their use of the Missouri Abandoned Housing Act two years ago.

The neighborhood uses a range of tools to make more livable housing without gentrification.

I'm sorry, but I just think it's very telling when we differentiate between ICE's killing of American citizens versus undocumented immigrants. And I'm seeing that a lot right now.

Muting today's threads because believe it or not, it's actually quite exhausting and hurtful to have to argue that undocumented immigrants' lives are also valuable and meaningful and that their killings by federal immigration agents should also serve as "flashpoints" in the U.S.

As a reporter, I see the process of dehumanization regularly. I see how government agencies, law enforcement, elected officials, and media twist beautiful parts of people to build a public narrative that excuses their unjust treatment, or justifies their murder. But it’s still very painful to watch.

This the latest backfire in blue state attempts to regulate the unproven procedure, as @susanrinkunas.com and I reported with @motherjones.com:
Abortion Pill “Reversal” Is a Hoax. It's Also a Powerful Right-Wing Legal Strategy.
Speakers at a crisis pregnancy center conference made rare admissions about the challenges of providing so-called abortion “reversal,” and indicated its importance as a litigation tool.
