South East England. Into genre evolution, H.G. Wells to H.G. Lewis, Hammer to Chainsaw. Giallo and Euro horror are my happy place. Incurable nostalgia junkie. 🇬🇧🏳️‍🌈
I was pretty lucky, my parents were great and bought me my first (and second!) projector and screen, plus films along the way. I did contribute from my pocket money, obviously... 😄

I was probably around the same age, then my dad bought me a copy on Super 8. A favourite ever since...

I've always enjoyed the Brigadoon analogy, although I think I'm glad Connie Mason doesn't burst into song! As far from good cinema as you can get but there's something about this one...

Well, Gorgo was 1961 and Hammer (amongst others) had been making films in colour for several years, so not overly unusual, even for low budget films...

Agreed, it's not great but I've loved it since I was a kid.

Excellent, thanks for sharing. I'll check it out when I get home...

Indeed, the production history is fascinating stuff!

Agreed, the flaws are clear but for me it adds to the charm. Another I had on Super 8 as a kid, projected on loop in my bedroom. Wonderful memories.

It's original UK title was Behemoth the Sea Monster. This was the odd US title change, I don't think they knew the meaning of Behemoth...

This is B&W, Gorgo is colour and Reptilicus is Danish.... does that help at all..? 😁

I like the thought process. Very nice outcome, too. And it's fun watching them all while you decide...

Indeed, it has it's flaws and I can see them clearly but I don't give a damn, for me it's pure magic... 😄

That's the perfect description. It's another I had on Super 8 as a kid, projected in my bedroom it had me in awe! Seeing places I was growing up around destroyed by the beast was really quite wonderful, and it's had a place in my heart ever since.

Wonderfully put, I may have to steal that... 😁

Great isn't it, it was actually drawn before production and the hole in it's torso inspired Cushing to suggest the sequence where he rams a spear through Lee!

Agreed, my favourite Pete Walker film and it's up with my favourite British horror films...

Indeed, he had a pretty rough time. He also had cut and bruised legs from pipes in the 'swamp' and strained his back carrying Yvonne Furneaux. Definitely suffered for his art!

I'm a big fan of this one. I've always admired how, at a time when many Italian films were trying to appeal to the larger US market, it's remains uniquely Italian. The style, pacing etc... everything about this is just perfect for me. Love it...

Great isn't it, from a production perspective it's prime Hammer. Lee brings an incredible force to the monster, I remember as a kid believing it was the first mummy I'd seen that could actually kill people! Scared me something rotten...

Will you almost watch it today?
October 11, 2026 at 12:26 PM
I think we've agreed on all of the above many times! Early Hammer was lightning in a bottle, a perfect coming together for all aspects of film production. The talent on both sides of the camera was remarkable.
