Unthinkably for a Kyrgyz film (or anything produced in the USSR, really), #AkMöör also features a sex scene!

And it's as subtle as it is sensual.

Went to a special screening of a 1969 Kyrgyz classic #AkMöör tonight.

A cinematic poem of the highest order: told (and often sung!) in verse, staged like a theater play, framed like an avantgarde silent film. And Tattybyubyu Tursunbayeva is one of the most beautiful women to ever walk this earth.

Jeremy Irons has his share of odd career choices, but wearing this ponytail in #CallasForever gotta be in the Top 3.

In a particularly curly mood tonight!

Watching #MariaByCallas for a little work project, and it's astonishing how much the real Callas in 1970 looks like Angelina Jolie.

Pablo Larraín couldn't have picked a better actress for his film.

Mission Accomplished ✅

I've been spending entirely too much time in #CODWarzone the past few months, but hey, it's my last opportunity to do so before they discontinue the PS4 version.

Revisited #EndOfDays, and it features some of the most delightfully excessive editing I've ever seen.

We made fun on Liam Neeson needing a dozen cuts to climb a fence, but this might be even more hilarious. And, unlike Taken 3, it has Arnold blowing up Satan with a grenade launcher!

And now they've recreated another McQuarrie concept illustration – complete with the OG non-saucer Millennium Falcon!

How the fuck did they manage to make Cooper Hoffman look unsexy?

I guess, developing AI does that to a man.

Back on my #TheNanny train again.

Was really curious how they've adapted the Kibbutz episode in Russia (they didn't). But the next one, where Fran goes on a date with a mobster, was predictably delightful. "Mr. Tony" turned into a bashful Ukrainian gangster with peak 1990s fashion and haircut.

Revisited #TheAmazingSpiderMan2 last night.

Remember hating it back in 2014. But now, watching it back-to-back with the original TASM, it's shocking how much of an improvement it is in pretty much every aspect. Cinematography, production design, music, pacing, VFX. Everything...

...except story 🙃

Listening to #TheAmazingSpiderMan commentary, and jfc Avi Arad is a creep.

And that's it for #Foretales!

What a delightful, stylish, inventive, occasionally frustrating adventure it was.

Love how it made failure meaningful: you simply cannot save the world on your first try. But you can learn from your mistakes and then explore new strategies.

Really? Within Russia, Mikhalkov is pretty much the tsar of our cinema, making or breaking careers as he pleases.

And he had global renown too; though, I suppose, it's been some time ago.

But still: Burnt by the Sun, Urga, At Home Among Strangers..., Five Evenings. All amazing movies.

Somehow I never noticed that #TheAmazingSpiderMan never resolves:

1) What happened to Peter's parents;
2) What happened to uncle Ben's killer;
3) What happened to Mr. Ratha.

Not only that, the movie directly CALLS ITSELF OUT on not bringing closure to its subplots!

Rewatching #SpiderMan and keep thinking how Tobey Maguire feels kinda miscast.

This Peter is written with a hint of danger to him. A weird quiet kid who's one bad day away from snapping. Heath Ledger or Jake Gyllenhaal could bring that darkness to the surface. Maguire downplays it into blandness.

Funny thing is, as incompetent as #3DevAdam is at being a "superhero" crime thriller, whenever it gets to sex and grisly murders, there are some genuinely inspired giallo-esque visuals!

Clearly that's the kind of movie they *really* wanted to make.

This is, without a doubt, the funniest-sounding fight scene in the entire history of cinema.

Same "oof" is reused no fewer than five (!) times across 39 seconds. And it's placed directly over the rest of the soundtrack, so whenever they punch the bandit, everything else disappears.

On to the Turkish Spider-Man!

Or, as it is officially known, #3DevAdam.

Or, as I personally call it, Leotards Are Forever.

Oh, definitely Atlantis.

We have a fairly defined idea of what Camelot is. But Atlantis is the ultimate fuel for imagination. Where was it? What did its culture look like? What incredible technology it developed? Why did it disappear?

Endless storytelling potential!

Exploring the Japanese #SpiderMan series.

Not only is it delightfully ridiculous, the 1970s filmmaking hits like crack. Look at this shot alone! Focus pulling magic ✨

Unsure where this pic came from, but the irony is delicious.

Hudson Williams, star of one of the biggest queer shows ever, wears a t-shirt featuring the film Ivan's Childhood and its star Nikolai Burlyayev.

Meanwhile, Burlyayev is a raging homophobe and would probably have a stroke if he saw this.
