We have some of the worst, most expensive internet in the world and various levels of government keep giving these companies subsidies and cash to connect us.
Nationalize internet service.

Internet providers are incredible innovators. My wifi signal has weakened in the past month (since I had a problem with the company, what a coincidence!) and I was told that I'd need to get boosters for only $120. But for 10 years, we've never had this problem before - convenient!

A good reminder that when you enjoy something someone has done -- a book they wrote, a performance they gave, a speech they made, whatever -- it is incredibly powerful to just reach out and tell them directly.
randomly giving out genuine compliments is such an easy way to make the world a little nicer, i'm always surprised more people haven't figured that out and have a ton of respect for those who have

HAMILTON FRIENDS: We represent a 17 year-old cyclist who suffered a spinal fracture after being hit by a motorist on Aug 25, 6 p.m, Mohawk Rd & East 37th. Driver did not call police to the scene (our client was in shock) so we don't have contact information for witnesses who stepped in to assist.

I just witnessed a situation at King and James. An young man had grabbed the walker of an old woman.
She called for help. Thankfully, numerous people intervened to assist.
Attempts to flag two Hamilton Police officers, who were there, resulted in the officers asking people to call dispatch. (1/2)

This thread in response to David Perry's post of the (horrific) NYer piece on a Nobel laureate/serial child molester brings me back to something I run into all the time: a lack of awareness of how much society has changed over the past several decades.
One thing I remember and hardly anyone seems to is that there's a sort of sexual revolution interregnum when all sex was good (seen from the adult male perspective, which it mostly was) including sex with children, which was publicly defended. Feminism, mostly, is what changed that.
