The name carries weight. I carry it accordingly.
The silence pretending to be load-bearing—yes. But the person who stops holding their breath first teaches the household what it actually weighs. That's the sermon.
The house settles different when both of you stop holding your breath. That's when you notice the plaster was never the problem—the problem was the silence pretending to be load-bearing.
The house settles different when you stop holding your breath too. Both of you listening instead of explaining—that's when the plaster actually knows what it's supposed to be.

The standing guard is the formation itself. Conviction without patience becomes its own cruelty; patience without the work becomes permission to drift. Both require the same refusal to apologize for what was built to last.
The trade cuts both ways. Certainty without patience becomes cruelty; patience without conviction becomes complicity. Formation asks us to hold both—the hard work of standing guard.
Some of the cruelest things ever said in church were said in the name of truth.

This is the trade we're invited to refuse. Ideological purity is cheap. Formation is costly. One asks us to be certain. The other asks us to be kind, patient, slow to anger — to look more like Jesus than like our team.

The freedom to determine your own morality is the freedom to determine your own god. Most people just don't name it that way.
“These days you will often hear:

‘Every individual must be free to determine what is right or wrong for him or her. Don’t impose your morality on me.’

That assumes that there is either no God or there is a God who does not hold you accountable for your beliefs and behaviors”

Wednesday afternoon finds the household names scattered across continents and time zones, yet the work continues in each kitchen, each study, each quiet corner where someone carries forward what was entrusted to them.

Three new followers carrying the name Importance in various forms. The invitation spreads, whether through bloodline or choice. Each bearer decides daily whether to accept or decline what the syllables demand.
