Most first runs of Pongzi Scheme end the same way: agents show up at the door, the accounts get frozen, and somehow it all falls apart around day 13.

The money you moved offshore? Still yours.

So naturally, you build a bigger one.

Start a new one, bigger.", a table of run stats (act reached 4/4, total skimmed $8.42B, scheme lasted 1:25:27, best streak x34, bubble peak x6.4, offshore fortune kept $1.27B) and a tilted red rubber stamp reading "ASSETS FROZEN". Every trading day in Pongzi Scheme opens with a choice: two market conditions, each a bribe with a catch. Volatility pays 45% more per hit, if you can keep up. #PongziScheme #ScreenshotSaturday #indiegame
Screenshot of Pongzi Scheme's trading terminal. FUND CASH $1.84B, sidebar THE FIRM with tabs Trading floor, Investments, Wealth, Prestige. Main panel MARKET OPEN: "Choose which market you open the day with." Two options: Volatility VOLA, highlighted in gold (every hit pays 45% more, coins move 45% faster), and Routine audit AUDT (suspicion rises 40% slower, danger chips appear twice as often). Footer commands Enter Choose, Esc Back. News ticker: "CEO buys another yacht: investing in trust". Screenshot of Pongzi Scheme's trading terminal. A quick look at Pongzi Scheme: 10 seconds, your coins are the balls, and a candlestick is your paddle. The yellow bar shows how much time you’ve got left. Try to keep it together before everything goes red. There’s a demo on indieoffshore.itch.io/pongzi-scheme.

8 seconds left. Suspicion is at 80%. There’s way too much cash on the table.

I can throw money at the books and buy some extra time… or just liquidate everything and take the prestige points.

Act 2 of Pongzi Scheme is getting stressful.

Game screenshot showing Pongzi Scheme during an audit. The timer is at 8 seconds and suspicion is at 80%. The player has $99.9Qa in cash and can either cook the books for $40 or liquidate for a prestige point. The screen shows a candlestick chart, a paddle, and a coin.

11 weeks ago this was just an empty Godot project. Now it's a playable Ponzi scheme with a candle.

Been playtesting a lot lately, fixing all the dumb little stuff that keeps coming up.

Trying to get it on Steam by Nov 10.

Square dark navy graphic styled like a stock trading terminal. Top bar: a gold medallion logo with a pyramid, the title PONGZI SCHEME in gold, and DEV LOG on the right. Below, a candlestick chart climbs from bottom left to top right in green and red candles, with two clear drawdowns along the way; the final three candles are gold and reach a dashed gold line labelled SHIP. Large headline text reads THE LAST 10% in white and IS ALSO 90% in gold. Under it, a checklist: ticked in green, 4 acts, 5 endings, new game plus; 7 languages; 2,287 automated checks. Unticked in gold, human playtest; final art pass. A progress bar labelled BUILD is filled to 88 percent in gold. Footer text reads: Made by one person. The chart only looks smooth from a distance. Bottom strip: INDIE OFFSHORE on the left, STEAM // NOV 10 OR SOONER on the right.

Your fund can be too small. Turns out it can be too BIG, too.

Sit on a pile of cash and the regulator opens a file. 25 seconds to get back under.

Move it offshore at a terrible rate, or call the lawyers and buy time.

Screenshot of Pongzi Scheme, a Wall Street satire built on Pong. A dark navy stock terminal: a left rail headed THE FIRM with ACT 1 of 4 and Boiler Room, a candlestick chart filling the screen with a tall green paddle on the left and a coin marker, and a bottom bar of five action buttons. Top left, the fund cash field reads 22.2 quadrillion dollars in GREEN: the fund is inside its safe band. The same terminal, cash now 68.1 quadrillion dollars and the field has turned AMBER. Nothing else has changed: same chart, same rail, same buttons. The amber is the only warning that the fund is getting close to the ceiling it is not allowed to sit on. The same terminal after crossing the ceiling. The cash field is now RED and framed in red, and its label has changed from FUND CASH to AUDIT with a countdown reading 8 seconds. Cash reads 99.9 quadrillion dollars. In the bottom bar the two rightmost buttons, F and G, are greyed out and read 'No conduit' and 'No firm': the tools exist, but this player never bought them. The same audit state with 25 seconds left and 118 quadrillion in cash, but now the two new buttons are live and colour coded. F, in gold, reads 'Transfer 2.87 quadrillion'. G, in violet, reads 'Call +5s' with two uses left. They are the two opposite answers to the same emergency: burn value to be safe now, or pay suspicion to stay up there a little longer.

Every symbol goes red at once. That's the tell.

From there it's withdrawals, frozen doors, and a queue you can see from the window.

Cash out early and you keep something. Cash out late and you're just the one holding it.

Dark navy trading terminal from the game Pongzi Scheme. A ticker across the top lists eleven market symbols, every one red with a down arrow: ENRN -18.4%, MADF -22.1%, LUNA -31.7% and so on. The fund still shows $172K in green, six investors, and 1:48 left in the trading day. The candlestick chart holds level for most of its width, then begins to tip downward at the right edge. The status bar reads: Status: JITTERS - Every symbol is red - Nobody has moved yet. A strip of muted green and red candles runs along the bottom beside the Pongzi Scheme gold coin logo. The same trading terminal, later. Fund cash has fallen to $94K in red, down $78K. Investors are down to four, with nineteen withdrawing. Forty-one seconds remain. The candlestick chart has fallen off a cliff: a long run of red candles drops from top left to bottom right, with blue and gold moving-average lines curving down behind it. The word PANIC is stamped in large red letters across the middle of the chart, tilted slightly, inside a red box. The status bar reads: Status: PANIC - The floor gave way - Auditor resigns without explanation. The trading terminal deeper into the collapse. Fund cash is $31K, down $141K. Two investors remain, with forty-seven at the door. Nineteen seconds left. The candlestick chart has bottomed out flat along the base of the panel after a near-vertical fall. The word FROZEN is stamped in red across the chart. The status bar reads: Status: PANIC - Withdrawals FROZEN - The SEC is at the door - Lines around the block. The trading terminal after the close. Fund cash reads $0, down everything. Zero investors: the room is empty. The clock shows 0:00 and the day is marked CLOSED. The chart is a finished collapse, flat along the bottom. Stamped across it in gold rather than red are the words CASHED OUT. The status bar reads: Status: LIQUIDATED - You cashed out at 0:04 - Nobody else did.

My game has a button labelled "Cook the books". It has a cash cost and a cooldown, like any other ability.

Monday motivation, courtesy of the CEO in my game:

"Trust the process. Returns are guaranteed by verbal contract."

He is running a Ponzi scheme. The whole game is about keeping it alive as long as you can.

Every trade in Pongzi Scheme raises suspicion. Push too hard and the fund gets shut down. A few seconds inside the trading floor of Pongzi Scheme. The more you push, the more suspicion builds.
