It’s really interesting to me that every philosopher I recognised in this piece is male. Not that female philosophers are immune to professional risks but it recalls to mind Lord of the Flies as a hypothesis not on children’s behaviour, but specifically of privileged male behaviour.
Most philosophers prefer to keep madness at a safe distance. But to Wouter Kusters, the relationship is uncomfortably close: "Theoretical reflections have their practical counterpart in the breakdown of the mad."
Is Madness Philosophy in Practice?

Yeah so just your reminder that cloud storage isn't and never has been *YOUR* storage. If someone doesn't want you to have something, Google *CAN* (and apparently will) delete it for them first and ask questions later.
I've never seen such an effort to censor a document as I have the Amnesty International report on gender critical groups because of JK Rowling.

However long it’s been, I can still feel humbled in my trauma healing journey by the casual reflexive kindnesses of people who grew up fully loved & supported.

I have seen some people get a bit gloomy about the fact that Bluesky is losing some numbers, but I think chasing reach and network effects is probably where social media went wrong in the first place

Saw this heavily pregnant possum stroll out in daylight, heedless of the very curious pedestrians admiring her, going for what I guess is the possum equivalent of a midnight snack. Soothing some cravings? I got as close as I thought would be polite for the photo.

The thing about "literacy as gatekeeping" is that literacy is a learned thing, not a taught thing. IME, any given communicator is *aching* for you to engage with their text, and will happily give you the tools if they can, but the limiting factor is you, yourself.

Believe Women is an epistemological stance. It doesn't mean you assume that every single woman is telling the truth and women never lie. It means you understand that in the system that we exist in, there's much more risk and pain for women coming forward about abuse than there is anything to gain.

I like this. Though when feedback channels are through forms rather than in-person, a limitation of the format is the inability to ask questions to guide feedback. An interesting tension since I’ve seen forms create that interpersonal barrier specially to protect from unempathetic feedback.

Folks, I hate to tell you this, but if you spent more time reading actual books, or otherwise engaging with media created by human beings, and less time making up imaginary "tells", you would be much more able to spot AI slop without resorting to a list of "tells".
Please do not try to clock “balanced list of threes” as an AI tell because that’s been classic rhetorical structure for going on three millennia and it’s baked into all our writing now, I‘m begging people to read more old things
