Introducing the free Solo plan: you can now use Ellf for free as a single developer working locally 🎉

While we've self-funded this launch, we really want the tool to be accessible and make it easy to get started. So if you haven't tried it yet, sign up for the free plan and start building!

Just shipped a cool new feature: templates for end-to-end workflows your agent can import and adapt ✨

Want to optimize your LLM pipelines and replace components with cheaper alternatives? Or want to quickly train your own classifier? Just point your agent to the template and let Ellf do the rest.

Filming with @t-redactyl.bsky.social at @jetbrains.com today 🤩 Stay tuned for some cool new content and tutorials for building NLP with agents!

Are you using PyCharm or Junie at work? If so, what's your AI coding agent setup?

Bulding developer tools has changed a lot: we don't only need to think about human users but also their agents. A visual app, API and docs aren't enough.

Just published a new blog post on "agent UX", human-agent collaboration and some ideas and solutions we came up with:

New blog post about Ellf and what's currently missing for NLP and code + data projects with coding agents.

If we can make coding assistants good at NLP development, it'll be much easier to build accurate, fast, cheap & private models. So this is what we're working on 🙌

Introducing Ellf: The missing piece for building NLP with coding assistants · Explosion
Ellf is our new tool that plugs into the coding assistant you already use, like Claude Code, Codex or GitHub Copilot, and gives it the missing pieces to develop custom AI systems.

When we opened the waitlist for Ellf (our new platform for agentic NLP development) we asked people about their workflows, including their biggest bottlenecks when building custom NLP and AI applications.

Of course there's a selection effect at play here, but the results are pretty interesting: 🧵

Ever since we started woking on bringing our ideas into the cloud, we knew we wanted a hybrid architecture that lets users plug in their own compute. A bit like self-hosted runners in a CI system.

For our new tool Ellf, we host the app and you plug in your own data-private cluster 🧵
October 12, 2026 at 1:19 PM
If you've signed up for the Ellf waitlist, we just started sending out the first invites for early access 🤩 I also recorded a short video!

Ellf gives your coding assistant like Claude Code superpowers for solving NLP problems and a platform to execute data-centric projects, annotation and more.

Exactly 10 years ago today, Matthew and I sat at the notary's office overlooking the city of Berlin, and signed the founding documents of our company, @explosion.ai.

So much has happened since and we got to witness the field evolve, "AI" become mainstream, and hypes come and go. (1/8)

At PyCon Armenia I finally got to meet Anna Vissens, Head of Data Science at @theguardian.com, in person!

In her talk, she shared her team's in-depth analysis of sentiment towards immigration in parliament – using Prodigy for data annotation by humans and LLMs and spaCy for training classifiers.

I gave a talk on "Build-to-own AI: Agentic Development for Humans" at PyCon Armenia: how coding agents change the way we build ML systems and why code and programmable interfaces matter more than ever, not less.

Here's the whole thing as a thread 🧵 (1/18)

In Yerevan, Armenia, for PyCon Armenia & PyData Yerevan! I'm giving the opening keynote on Friday (tomorrow) and will be talking about "build-to-own AI", agentic development for humans, and how to use AI to build better AI.

Looking forward to seeing everyone and exploring Yerevan on my day off ✨

Just published a new blog post ✨

Our recent work got me thinking about Atomic Design by @bradfrost.com, a methodology for building web interfaces & how neatly it maps to how we've been approaching applied NLP: atoms (components) → molecules (pipelines) → organisms (applications) → pages (products)

The video of my talk at @pydatalondon.bsky.social is now live! I discuss the evolution of coding agents, why we should use LLMs to build systems, what's currently holding us back, and how we built a virtual assistant to help developers solve real-world NLP problems.
