This is so so bad
Here’s him touting the carbon capture project as sustainable — despite the vast majority of captured carbon (73%) being used to extract more oil from otherwise depleted wells.

Carney’s government offers a tax incentive even when this is how captured carbon is used.

Excellent news from Austria!

Vienna has become the first capital city to sign Greenpeace's pledge to get cities off gas by 2040, and move to 100% renewables

Cites can help get Europe off oil and gas, cutting pollution and people's energy bills at the same time

I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

Pretty clear from the replies the majority of people respond to this think David actually worked at Exxon, which would be something to behold

Good.

Now we need action. Tax fossil fuel giants to pay for firefighting helicopters. A cool space in every community. A maximum working temperature.

And no new oil and gas extraction in the North Sea. We cannot negotiate with the science.

A fire now the size of 140 football pitches

Drought in half of England & all of Wales

Heat alerts across the country.

Already 3000 dead from the heat.

The crisis is here. We can see it, we can smell the smoke.

We cannot sit by while government sit on their hands.

Our Prime Minister has had a lot to say today about subscriptions.

Meanwhile, huge parts of the country are in drought.

We're about to enter our fifth heatwave of the year, killing more people.

Are we going to get anything from the Government?

Literally anything?

Sure there's no transition? Check out global new car and light truck sales by powertrain. ICE vehicles have lost 1/3 of unit sales in the past decade. Dramatic decline, and quite obviously not about to reverse. Source: iea.blob.core.windows.net/assets/a096b...

Burning fossil fuels makes wildfires more frequent and more intense.

Of course those who have made record profits causing the problem should pick up the bill.

The usual lies from climate deniers like Matt Ridley.
Part of a broader pattern of paltering by bad actors like Bjorn Lomborg who misleadingly merge managed croplands & plains (which have seen decreases) with forests. See: www.carbonbrief.org/factcheck-no...

Extremely important investigation - I cannot emphasise enough how every single freaking day we are dealing with the consequences of the success of this lie.

Gas is basically treated like it's not a fossil fuel, even among some climate / energy advocates. It is so so so bad
NEW: Big Oil and Gas created the myth that natural gas is "clean" — despite knowing the health and climate harms of methane decades earlier than previously reported.

A major CCI investigation exposes how the gas industry deceived the public and policymakers into believing gas is a climate solution.

It's a grim reflection of the media's priorities that there's been seldom a word about who the new Environment Secretary is (Angela Eagle, by the way, who is surely an improvement on the dismal Emma Reynolds). The post should be up there with Home, Foreign and Defence. It's central to our wellbeing.
Everyone had better be nice to me, because the Monbiot Hex is working at last.
One of my earnest hopes is that Emma Reynolds, the former City lobbyist whom Starmer appointed as yet another craven, spineless and utterly useless Environment Secretary, will be out of a job tomorrow.

We don't bring back hope again by burning the planet and giving in to the fossil fuel industry.

Hope and a plan is bringing in wealth taxes, rent controls and investing in renewables.

That's how we make hope normal again.

Meanwhile Spain doubled it's renewables - before they had some of the highest bills in Europe and now some of the lowest bills.

This would be a deeply irresponsible and destructive act at any time.

To do it whilst we're having a third heatwave of the year and thousands of people have just died from extreme temperatures - makes it also politically incoherent.

We urgently need to replace Labour.
