But a theocracy run by madmen is exactly what the GOP is trying to implement… 🤔

I’m old enough to remember that high gas prices in the $4-$5 per gallon range was a key issue in the 2008 presidential election—meaning that it happened under Republican President Bush.

As far as I can think, absolutely not. I’ve been trying to understand this as well — what is the accusation exactly??

Even if he had been in Atlanta, how would that prove he communicated with the local prosecutor? And why would doing so be scandalous in any way? Every aspect of this story is dumber than the next.

It seems clear to me that his staff/GOP are lying and he either had a stroke or traumatic brain injury from falling and is unable to speak.
911 info says EMS gave him CPR. They only do that if heart/breathing stopped. That’s not just a fall.

Even the GOP itself doesn’t like its candidates. You’ve got high-stakes Senate and House races and you didn’t want to give a single one of those candidates a top spot? You chose instead wooden Scott Bessent and the housing secretary who has been nowhere amid a housing crisis?

My mom sends me stuff from Threads that she finds cute and more often than not the videos are AI slop

She presents zero evidence in this piece that these grocery stores will lose money, and if they’re not losing money, then they cost taxpayers nothing.
Also, literally every grocery store uses this tactic of deeply discounting certain staples to draw in customers.

I am convinced that American construction companies are constantly fleecing government. Chicago is building a metro extension similar to this one but *aboveground* on an existing rail corridor, and the cost is budgeted at $3.6 billion.

Especially because the public’s conceptions of these categories are very much colored by right-wing narratives. E.g. on immigration, large swathes of the population believe that Dems are in favor of “open borders” because the right wing has relentlessly pushed that message.

You should see the comments on every single Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune story involving Pritzker. Just a litany of fat shaming (can’t even be called jokes) with zero subtlety or cleverness. It seems to be the only criticism Republicans can find against him.

For people who haven’t seen the Arc de Triomphe in person, it’s very big, probably bigger than you might expect for a knockoff of Roman monuments. This arch would be much, much bigger. Absurdly so.

It is not mathematically possible for her to save $11,000 from the “no taxes on tips” law. It has a limit of $25k worth of tips and there is no way she was paying a 44% tax rate.

All these news organizations credulously reporting her claim that she’s saved massively because of the tax law 😤 If she made $11k in tips, that means she maybe saved $1k on taxes (if she even made enough before to pay fed taxes). It’s possible the law saved her money, but not as much as claimed.

I think when we talk about term limits, most people imagine two terms. But what if we limited House members to something like 7 to 10 terms and senators to 3 or 4? Could that balance the need for institutional knowledge with the need for fresh faces?

It’s short for gasoline… how is calling it petroleum or petrol when it’s only one of many components of petroleum better?
