Unfortunately, the next release was Darksteel, and it killed all the fun times for me. I never really picked it up again. Darksteel felt like a betrayal. Not sure if that was a thing for many folks. Turned me off completely. Don't think I ever bought another pack. Played only with the cards I had

This one got me in my MTG feels. The first Magic I Gathered was Scourge. "This looks like badass Pokemon" and "Hey, the energy/mana system is way better!" Then Mirrodin released and I felt the "Magic" and it was for me. Loved it. Couldn't wait to play more and collect more.

For-profit incarceration ignores the function of capitalism within a society. To maximize profits in a prison, the prison must encourage recidivism rather than discourage it. It must encourage false imprisonment rather than discourage it.

It unfortunately explains soooo much about the current state of politics and governance in the UK. One generation benefitted enormously from a handout and is convinced they "earned it" and tell following generations to go out and earn the same. That same generation makes a wild pension "triple lock"

The UK did that for a long time. "Council housing." And then Margaret Thatcher decided to sell off all those assets into private hands, which immediately turned them into investment vehicles. Largely considered a crazy giveaway to a single generation in hindsight.

Some lady racially abused a dude coming out of a new restaurant in my neighbourhood. Bystander made the lady aware that her behaviour was wholly unwelcome and so was she. MP. The lady was arrested. A vigil was later held at the restaurant, boosting their business in spite of bad press
