Dev Diary # Zero Hello , since this is my very first dev dairy I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Marvin , I am a game designer and Artist. Went to school for game development with an art focus. Honestly it's been quite some years since then but in the past few years I've gotten back into game design. I will say before hand I'm not the best at talking so some this might seem long winded but I promise most my post wont be so long. This brings us to now I'm making a development dairy for a few reasons , ones pretty obvious I would like to get more eyes on what I'm developing. The second is to help me keep a record and accountability for my dealines. My main project , I've been working on for a few years in my free time is Songs of Kin and Creation. Songs is a TTRPG (table top role playing game ) based in a high fantasy setting which I'm also writing . To create the world of Songs, I used more African and Black cultural influences instead of the more commonly used western or east Asian influences. Im designing Songs to be a classless system with dynamic combat. My second project codename Obsydian Skies is more of a hobby when Songs of Kin and Creation gets a bit overwhelming for me , though I'm still very serious about it completion even if it takes a bit more time to complete. Obsydian Skies is a little dating sim I had an idea for. This will feature predominantly black and poc characters. The story will be about the MC restarting his life back in his hometown , where an cultural exchange program between fae like beings from another realm is in progress. I will be keeping a monthly diary keeping up with my progress and goals for these two projects. I will do a twice a month updates if I have alot to cover for either game. I apologize for such a long introduction but if you've made it this far , thank you for your time and I hope you can join me on this journey.

"A bunch of people would rather post on Race War Now Dot Swastika rather than Bluesky because you keep making fun of their imaginary computer friend" is a RESOUNDING endorsement for the concept of hostility.
Part of a thread from some bluecheck: Multiple people I know have told me that they love the idea of Bluesky, and want it to succeed, but have abandoned it for X because the use agentic tools in their work and find them incredibly useful, and feel that any mention of their usage here leads to hate and ridicule. I wouldn't bring this up if it was just one person, but it was multiple people since the beginning of August who mentioned in passing something to the effect of either "I'd spend more time on Bluesky if people weren't so anti-AI" *or* "As much as I hate to be there all the useful AI talk is on X." I'm not saying it's anyone's responsibility to praise AI usage. I agree with much of the criticism of the tool. But for many, many people, it is a useful tech (I have talked about the ways I find it extraordinarily useful, only to have people here mock me, insisting my lived experience is a lie). I am just noting that for all the people here who say that people should get off X and spend more time here, the reason I keep hearing from people in various circles who would *like* to do that, but don't, is the vociferous belief of many here that there are no possible positive uses of AI.

Feburarary and march I was working on the same objectives , preparing for play tests . Its been a difficult few weeks doing art for me , couldn't get anythingI drew to look the way I wanted. I did finally get a piece and a few sketches done thats helping me get back into the swing Nearly got everything ready to start more playtest , just got to round up some friends . I've have the current batch of arts (skills)prepared for playtest I was able to get the rest of my companion outlines for their storie and quest done and even wrote some scenes for damian. Im going keep working on character mood images to get the style im looking for while drafting up more of the scenes with the companions. April Im gonna finaly get some playtesting done. For obsydian Skys I'm just going to start writing scenes for a while . I'll still be focusing my art on the characters in obsydian skys its been fun creating these characters and understanding more and more of who they are. Songs of Kin and Creation : Finished character sheet rework, and a new player guide. Currently finalizing current bactch of Arts (skills) for playtest. Feb - I'll be working on arts , items and cleaning up some details and rules to begin some playtest by the end of the month. Obsydian Skies : Got 2 out of 3 companion illustrations Tajah and Faizah completed, currently working on Bahir's illustration currently. Complete story outlines for the MC , Damian and Tajah. Feb - will be working on more illustrations and story outlines for the rest of the companions. Im going to post finished Images on my bluesky but will start some character introductions for Songs of Kin and Creation as well as Obsydian Skies on the weekends to give readers more looks on the worldbuilding in-between these dev diaries. Obsydian Skies 2025 : Began pre-production of obsydian Skies. Companion and Main character concept art and profiles . Story outline for 3 chapters written. Companion Damians story path writing started. 2026 : Goals for 2026 is to have final versions of the main character and his companions. I'm also hoping I can have a full rough draft of Act one and the two main companions stories done. January : Working on concept art of the companions to show off some of their personalities. I've completed Damians , Tajahs will be done soon and aiming to finish 2 more before the end of January.I have also started on a draft of Damians sotry line. In this Dev Diary I am going to go over what Ive already accomplished , what my gials are this year and what my goal is this month . Songs of Kin and Creation 2025 : So for the last year I've have been doing a rewrite of Songs current rule set and player start.This has helped me alot with gaps in my rule set and made everything feel more cohesive. 2026 : My goal for this year is to begin Open Beta Testing by summer . Im currently ironing out wrinkles from my previous versions of rule sets and setting up closed playtest. Once the Songs rule are ready for open play test I'll have more time to work on more world building. January : I will be cleaning up the new player experience and also finishing up a few details for the new version of character sheet to match better with the updated rules. I'll share the character sheet in my next Dev Dairy. I'll include a look at my drafts as I further design the people of Songs of Kin and Creation. I'll share more images publicly on my kofi.
