ICE desperately wants you not to care about this story

But we must. The killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican national striving for his American Dream, is a moral outrage, and a warning. ICE hopes you won't notice that mass deportation is back

ICE killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. They want you to be apathetic. Don’t be. | Will Bunch
Salgado came from Mexico, built the American Dream, sent his sons to college, and was senselessly killed by ICE.

Born here. American. Full stop.

Our place in this country was never in question. Today, that truth held.

Just this week, we brought hundreds of Indian and South Asian Americans to Capitol Hill to remind Congress of a simple truth: we belong.

We showed up because our president consistently traffics in hate.

And we will keep organizing, advocating, and building power in response.

A big part of the authoritarian playbook is war. War takes over the news. War blots out criticism. War divides a nation’s people, subjecting those against it to being called unpatriotic. War grants leaders all sorts of emergency powers. War consumes everything else.

We mustn’t let this war do so.

Reminder: President Obama reached a deal that was preventing the Iranian regime from acquiring the bomb.

Schumer opposed it.
Trump ripped it up.

Now, on false pretexts, American families are being dragged into another illegal, unnecessary forever war. It didn't have to be this way.

At some point (and by that I mean right now) the people hiding behind some version of "Trump hasn't made clear his goals" need to lay out their view of when and how they would approve a forever regime change war.

Senators+MOCs should stop hiding behind process and deflection. That's not leadership.

"Defiance through compassion"

This is what leadership, rooted in our shared values, should look like everywhere. One that stands shoulder to shoulder with those most in need, not one that turns their back on them.
Mamdani: "I speak of Renee Good, whose final words to the man who murdered her were, 'I'm not mad at you.' I speak of Alex Pretti who died as he lived, caring for the stranger. ICE shot him bc he did something they could never fathom ... let us offer a new path: one of defiance through compassion."

Predicting that this week we’ll hear more conciliatory words from the Administration regarding Minnesota (since they’re starting to realize that ICE has become politically toxic) but everyone outside of Minnesota needs to know that nothing on the ground has changed.

I know all eyes are on Minneapolis, but there's a fast-approaching nightmare in Springfield, Ohio.

Trump is revoking protected status for tens of thousands of Haitians living there on Feb. 3.

Reportedly, on Feb. 4, 1000 ICE agents are arriving to remove this population. Ethnic cleansing.

Really hard to look at this and all the other examples of bravery and kindness from ordinary people in this moment not think also of the tremendous cowardice exhibited over the past year by some of the richest, most well-protected people in business, media and politics
Let us all have the courage displayed by the residents of Minneapolis.

This is pure, unabashed bigotry.

If a politician said this about any other faith, they would rightfully be run out of their party.

But this kind of despicable anti-Muslim rhetoric is so normalized that a sitting Senator uses it without consequence.

A stain on our Congress.

The original Dem demands were:
1) Permanent ACA subsidies
2) Medicaid funding restored
3) No more blank checks for the regime (rescission)

They dropped Medicaid immediately. Went silent on rescission. Cut back to 1 year of subsidies on Friday. And surrendered today.
