Nonprofit and government executive leading progress for people, nature, and climate. Often out on trails biking, running, or hiking, or on rivers, creeks, and lakes paddling, usually with my kiddo and spouse.

Views are my own.
This from @morethanjustparks.bsky.social is correct. It's been *really* dispiriting over the past 18 months especially with my work in conservation, public lands, and related issues to see him con so many people and organizations.

this is REALLY why some companies are so bullish on AI
But this second-order discrimination is *so* 20th century. Here in the 21st century, we have *first-order* price discrimination, in which AI-powered pricing algorithms use commercial surveillance data about *you*, personally, to predict the highest price you're willing to pay.

"But Haselhuhn’s work does raise a question about the best way to sell the need for climate action...At first he thought it might be effective to suggest that real men take care of their family and are good parents, but that “just didn’t move the needle at all”, he told me."

Sigh.

There should be legal consequences for this, starting with the Director of OMB and his insistence on violating the Constitution if he feels like it, and including any member of Congress who refuses to exercise their authority to impeach said Director and anyone else involved.

On one hand, hooray for Baltimore and production capacity, on the other hand, per the story: "Anduril’s entry [is a] large bet by the fast-growing defense-tech company that has little track record in the heavy industrial work...to build nuclear-powered subs."

Yes to @hormiga.bsky.social's new newsletter, and lean into the last point of taking action. Bystander intervention, yes. Esp. if you're in a position of authority, explicit or implicit, use it to take action. Neither silence nor inaction are acceptable.

Is this a new tactic that big tech's PR firms are starting to push? I don't think I've seen this phrase, "and other online services," appended to the AI focus of the data center explosion. It reeks of "...you try to stop us and we'll end your online services"

Part of why I don't like the AI-or-bust economy is the constant flopsweat of people on the news who say this HAS to work. Quit making everyone so anxious. Goddamn. If this is the next Google then why are you acting like this? I don't remember being told to buy an iPhone at gunpoint.
