🎥 Film PSA (NZ):
If you don't get a chance to see it in cinema (you can still see it Friday 04 Sep @ various NZIFF locations plus in ltd other cinemas), catch, or rewatch Jim Jarmusch's familial triptych FATHER MOTHER SISTER BROTHER on Netflix www.netflix.com/title/82064544

New BERGERAC series 2: glad to see Jim has started wearing a belt. The constant disturbing undertone throughout series 1 was watching a grown man wandering around in dress pants with a tucked in shirt but no belt.

Fun fact: Dolly Parton spent decades quietly funding band uniforms and instruments at Black high schools across the South - never once putting her name on it. No headlines, no fanfare — just help, given because it was needed.

Wonderful Heart ♥️ RIP Dolly ❤️

Dad was a country fan so my parents took us to see Dolly & Kenny live at Mt Smart Stadium in 1987, just after we moved to Auckland, when I was 13. My 2nd ever proper gig. Loved that show, and was glad to discover Dolly was, and remained, a wonderful human who lived an impactful life #RIP

NZ film PSA 🎥: see MĀRAMA @ Māori+
Did you miss it in theatres? Or, like me, just need to see it again, and show it to friens and whānau? Stream Taratoa Stappard's arrestingly excellent Māori-Gothic horror MĀRAMA for free via Whakaata Māori's Māori+ streaming service 🤙🏽

Inadvertently celebrated two sides of my heritage with my causal birthday dinner. Had three Indian curries of varying heat and also got a bag of fry bread. Then, in the horiest move ever, I made pockets out of the fry bread and stuffed them with curry and rice! 😂😋 #sotasty #hbdtome

Final film of #NZIFF 2026 (barring any unexpected additional screening attendance) is Kantemir Balagov's BUTTERFLY JAM. Hopeful for a darkly, colorful psychodrama... 🤞🏾

Shit man, Glen Hansard killed in a motorcycle accident. He was only 4yrs older than me. Many will know him from The Frames or The Commitments but I became aware of him and his music via John Carney's entrancing ONCE @nziff.bsky.social 2007. Great, raw singer-songwriter talent. #RIP 😢

I just finished an enjoyably slow Sat morning read of Sam Neill's autobiography a few months back, followed by a subsequent dive back into his filmography to catch up on films I hadn't seen at the time or for a long while... So he's been in my mind a lot of late, and now for a while longer 😢
Looking forward to reading this year's Christmas Eve book 🤓 #SamNeill

The loss of Sam Neill feels like a national moment, a bit like Billy T. He gave us many iconic roles, some great Central Pinot Noir, and spoonfuls of lockdown 'decompression medicine'.

BACURAU: Social satire meets political thriller, filled with a thick slab of spec-fic mystery, edging sci-fi, and with sides of action-gore, black comedy, and small town relationship drama. Truly a wild ride! 😍

Tearepa Kahi's docudrama SGT. HAANE just dropped on TVNZ+ telling the story of Te Arawa 28th Māori Battalion hero Haane Manahi from WWII. Wicked story, very nicely told. And co-stars my homie Rihare Te Are⁩ 👏🏾 Well worth a watch and under 90mins 🤓
