First boil of the season - it was an unseasonably warm day but all went well and the maple syrup had pronounced flavors of soft caramel candy, butter, and maple.

Our sugarbush in Vermont where we make our award winning maple syrup was just certified as bird friendly habitat.

It is a win-win for birds, the trees, and us as producers because diverse sugar woods are more productive than monoculture.

The US Senate sent us a flag flown over the Capitol. Remember that the Constitution begins We the People…. establish justice and the pledge ends and Justice for All.

Found in my garage possibly a Giant Swallowtail (Papilio cresphontes). It used to be mostly a southern species, but climate change and warmer summers have allowed it to establish breeding populations as far north as Vermont, New Hampshire, and southern Quebec.
