Lot's of walls to choose from, but this is one of my favorites. #WIPsnips #Writesky
Riley launched through the cabin door, meeting Zach’s wide eyes, the monster between them. He turned to run, his boots refusing to grip before he crashed into the mud-soaked earth. The creature reared its hulking frame onto two legs over him. “No!” Riley screamed. Hot current rippled through her body, seizing her muscles. Pain seared beneath her skin. Her mind entwined with her parasite’s, whirling into twisting threads of consciousness, and they plunged into the bear’s psyche together. Resistance. Their assault crashed against a wall. It wasn’t enough. Another jolt cascaded through her, and they battered the gates, smashing through the defenses. Then fear. Not their own, but an overwhelming dread rising from the colossal beast itself. A lost, scared animal buried beneath the dominance of its occupier. In a blink, she saw its life. Simple. Peaceful. Until it was twisted and left here as a sentry. Darkness surged into its mind and another presence burrowed into them. Two raging blue eyes set against a dark, shadowed face, pulsing wires beneath its skin. ‘Heretic. At last.’

My only dent in the whole story 😬 #wipsnips
Charred wood and pine pricked at her nose as she pushed outside, drifting into the crisp air. Firelight painted a story in orange and red across the dented metal of old military buildings and makeshift cabins: home for the past two years. Riley drew in another heavy breath, releasing it slowly as the dazzling night sky settled her mind. Nothing grounded her like stargazing. Except, maybe, her sister. She’d promised that they would celebrate together, and she would keep her word; it was likely the only part of tonight that Aria was looking forward to.

After a long day of pitching, it's fun to post a snip. Just some no nonsense aftermath.
Zach approached, running his hand through his short hair. His eyes scanned the splattered black blood painted on her clothes. “Happy to see you both.” Aria peered past his shoulder. “Everyone safe? “Exhausted with some injuries. We got lucky.” His face wrinkled into a grimace as his hand shot over his nose. “Holy… what the hell is that smell?” Lucky so far. Something about this entire night didn’t sit right. Aria moved past Zach, waving for him to follow. “You don’t want to know. Any news from camp? Riley?”

A conversation between sisters in over their heads. #WIPSnips #Writesky
“We were all so young. Too young for war, really. And when someone is in a cage, and not pointing a weapon at you, you start seeing them as a person. You start connecting to them. These guards forgot the first thing they told us in training: never learn their names.” “Okay… and?” “And, if you want to connect to someone… or something, maybe ask its name? Or give it one. If nothing else, it would make this easier to talk about.” Connect? Did she want to connect with this thing? This parasite that chewed her from the inside out.

The "well" is deep for this one. 😅 #WIPSnips
The second monster surged forward, shrieking as it crashed into Riley’s disconnected body, and a shudder coursed through this vessel like a far-away echo of the impact—her blazing frame holding firm against the assault. Burning flesh fouled the air as the creature seized with violent tremors against the pavement. And that agony coursed through them as well. Countless screams flooded through her, demanding obedience. Demanding subjugation. Like hell they would.

I have this one! #WIPSnips
The door opened slowly, revealing a middle-aged man in beige dress pants and a dark green sweater. Wavy auburn hair framed soft wrinkles and wide blue eyes: a face dredged from her memories. His mouth fell open without words, the wall clock ticking behind him, each second taking more time than it deserved. “Riley?” The name fell from his tongue like an anchor, dragging him somewhere he didn’t want to go. He recognized her? After all these years, he knew who she was? “And you must be Aria.” After another awkward delay, he blinked too many times. “Please come in.”

Still she cares deeply for those around her and would risk everything for the people she loves." Character quotes "I need to feel something, Zach. Feel anything. Remember what it's like to be human for one more night." "You want to save everyone so badly that you forget we- I just want you. Safe. Alive." "I've spent my whole life claiming something the world didn't want me to have... And now another world will take it all away." Character profile. Character quotes "I don't do parties... Not anymore. We have to be ready. Always." "I believe you. All of it. But aliens? First fantastic zealots, then zombie bears. Let's see how far we can go."

Aaaaand my moodboard for #DVParty. Some sad. Some dark. Sisters who'd burn down the world to save each other.
Moodboard collage. Clockwise from the top. Purple nebula, Jinx and Vi facing each other, four color swatches (blue, purple, black/white and grey), run down institutional building, cyberpunkesque city, microscope, campfire, church spire at night and a dark forest .
