Good day birding round the Suffolk coast starting at Shingle street with 4 Pied Flycatchers at the allotments. Couldn't find Whinchat or Wheatear. Lovely to have a chat with Cheryl & her husband & Ray York.On to Minsmere where we saw the Whinchat at the Abbey ruins, but dipped the Little Stint.

Not a bad day birding, finally caught up with singing quail at Aldham in a Barley field, then on to Minsmere for the Black Tern a good find by Matthew Dean's, then finished day at Hazelwood marshes dipped the Curlew Sand but did find 5 lovely Golden Plover which now brings our Suffolk tally to 202.
Went back to Bog Fen eventually caught up with Whinchat, a cracking singing male. One new butterfly Dark green Fritillary, and one new wild flower, Bog Aspodel. Back to Thornton le Dale for the Dippers. ( No pics of Fritillary too quick for phone camera )

Went back to Bog Fen eventually caught up with Whinchat, a cracking singing male. One new butterfly Dark green Fritillary, and one new wild flower, Bog Aspodel. Back to Thornton le Dale for the Dippers. ( No pics of Fritillary too quick for phone camera )
Lovely day at Kilnsey Park, good selection of orchids. 8 species in total an impressive display of Pugsley's marsh orchid unfortunately just the leaves of the lady slipper orchid which flowered in late may.

Went to Ellerburn Bank some stunning wild flowers even thou very dry. Found 4 species of orchids,fly, heath spotted, bee, greater butterfly, lots of wild thyme, lovely display of Yellow rock rose, good selection of butterflies, highlight Marbled white, & birds of note Bullfinch, Nuthatch.

Went to Ellerburn Bank some stunning wild flowers even thou very dry. Found 4 species of orchids,fly, heath spotted, bee, greater butterfly, lots of wild thyme, lovely display of Yellow rock rose, good selection of butterflies, highlight Marbled white, & birds of note Bullfinch, Nuthatch.

Up in Yorkshire for 10 days quick visit to Mathewson's car Auctions, classic cars that take you back in time. Then onto Fen Bog and the moors saw Red Grouse, displaying Redpolls,loads of willow warblers, Dipped on the whinchat, seen a few interesting butterflies,
Interesting day around Westwood & Walberswick marshes. Reasonable views of the Red Footed Falcon, a record number of common lizards on the track through the marshes and good number of Interesting caterpillars.

A few failed attempts today but we still managed to get a couple of good birds for our Suffolk list. Very good views of the Hoopoe many thanks for the gentlemen who invited us in to his house to see it in the backgarden. Then on to Minsmere for 6 Little Terns.

Good day all round with another 9 birds to our list. Starting with Wood Sands, Black winged stilts , Hobbies, Reed Warbler, Ringed Necked Parakeet, Sanderling, which has become our bogey bird in the past, so that was good to get, Garden Warbler, Ruff, Yellow Wagtails, dipped again on Fantails.

Good day all round with another 9 birds to our list. Starting with Wood Sands, Black winged stilts , Hobbies, Reed Warbler, Ringed Necked Parakeet, Sanderling, which has become our bogey bird in the past, so that was good to get, Garden Warbler, Ruff, Yellow Wagtails, dipped again on Fantails.

Good day had by all today good views of every thing seen. Nightingales, Ring Ouzel, exceptionally Common Tern, Whimbrel,in 2 locations Red kite, Common White Throat, heard Sedge, & Reed Warblers but didn't see due to the wind, added 5 species to our Suffolk list.
Visited Carlton Marshes in the Spring sunshine this morning good to see a Drake Ferruginous Duck after standing waiting for an hour and a half for it to show, a fine pair of Garganey and a good selection of other birds. Also good to see the Slow worms back in the compost bin.

Good day even thou the fog at Minsmere was heavy. Highlights of the day very showy Bearded tit's,& Cetti's, 2 Spoonbills, singing Chiffy, Male Black Redstart, at the sluice, Kingfisher, 3 Gooseander, Water pipit,Med Gull, Little & Great Egrets, Woodlark, Green Woodpecker, just to name a few.

Enjoyable day in the warm sunshine, first bird of the day was a lovely Bramling, in a rather large Chaffinch flock, then on to Westleton heath for Woodlark. Dartford Warblers, we then picked up a bonus of two Ravens, 1 single Scoter of Dunwich Beach, finished the day with a single Ruff at Botany.

Enjoyable day in North Suffolk starting at Ness point with a colour ringed Rock pipit, Male Eider South, Red Throated Diver North, 2 Purple Sands, thanks to Peter Ransome for the Purple Sands, An unusual Red Legged Partridge in a compound Grey Partridge at Ellough,and 2 Crossbills at Westleton
Nice to see the Twite at Reydon marshes today feeding well on the river wall, then onward to Kessingland to get good views of the shore larks and snow Buntings, also a lovely Red Kite flew over the A12 on way home.

Enjoyed birding at Boyton marshes today in a bitterly cold wind, highlights today were Goldcrest, Tundra Bean Geese, Cattle Egret, first Chiffchat of the year, and good to see Little Owl.

Another good day sunny but bitterly cold, several good birds seen highlights Scaup, Lovely Bullfinches, Pochards, and more Woodcocks.

Good Start to the new year with 63 species seen highlights were Temmincks stint, Water pipit a very showy kingfisher and finish the day on Westleton heath with at least 10 Woodcock seen.

Our last day in the Shetlands, highlights were Steppe Grey Shrike, Humes Warbler, Waxwing, Red Breasted Fly, Ring Necked Duck, Northern Longtailed tit's, Northern Bullfinch, and the real highlight of the holiday was seeing the Northern lights.
