Only because of the corruption & bad faith of his rethuglican congress & the deep strain of racism & misogyny that most of us believed (or fruitlessly hoped) was on the wane in our electorate.

Old people need to get out of congress and off our dime, and btw, they sure as shit don’t need us to provide paid sick leave or lifetime healthcare coverage.

This is not recent…when I ran for local office 35+ years ago as a liberal, my mentor, leaving the local stage to join a (famous) dem senator’s staff, told me if I squared up against local developers he’d withdraw his support, because “they have the money.” I didn’t win (duh).

As a reader & thinker, I agree, reluctantly. They’ve “won” so much, I see so little evidence of willingness to face & accept the truth, & so much of insatiable greed & avarice, I think we probably have 100 years of rehab ahead of us. And it won’t be smooth.

I’m not sure it’s defeatist….i think, in the right hands, it’s cautious, realistic, & calls to our better angels.

I don’t believe he has the capacity to be or to do better…and I think this has been pretty clear to those of us not similarly incapacitated for years.
It makes me glad my dad is gone…he had great faith in our system & in good ultimately triumphing over evil. This would have gutted him.

I lived through w’gate, railing that it was going too slow, while my dad calmly assured me that, while the law may be slow, it gets it right eventually. So far, this makes me glad my dad is dead…this would break his heart.

My state doesn’t have in person voting or the infrastructure to quickly enable it. I’m sure it’s only by chance that we’re a blue state.
