I am interested in understanding visual perception across early, mid and high levels of the visual world

High resolution rod vision?

I appreciate your willingness to engage in scientific public disagreement, Derek! To me, there is a need for more of that rather than cushy bothsideism

Very interesting read, thanks for citing some of my work!

Altman - meta analysis or bland Altman test?

In amblyopia, reduced cortical territory for binocular disparity is accompanied by increased territory for motion and color processing—a trade-off also observed, to a lesser extent, in typical vision. 2/2

leave-one-out analysis for small data sets can deal with the issue

AIM-VA successfully detected larger interocular acuity differences in amblyopes.
Exploratory analyses showed shallower psychometric slopes associated with higher noise parameters across groups, with stronger covariance in refractive than strabismic amblyopia, suggesting phenotypic differences. 2/2

Good news is, you can just asked and psychophysically probe whether anyone has exaggerated experiences relative to a reference.

I am alert to these issues due to my own research. What I call 'Experimenter Bias Creep' may be something you all recognize too: a method had been used for ages, is now Gold standard, and therefore not being questions as the method is usually a means to an end.

If exaggeration is not a property of mental imagery, then this could be shown by asking it explicitly. Hyper-excitation in vision is not impossible, consider e.g. visual snow syndrome. How could it exaggerated? More saturated colors, high contrast, more details (semantic exaggeration) etc .

Secondly, I wonder how repeatable (trial-by-trial and test-retest) these reports within an observer are?
