Lauren Rever, a public historian and fellow for digital history at the German Historical Institute in Washington, D.C. in 2024/2025, initially engaged with digital history in the context of her dissertation, which involved the mapping of school students' field trips to Washington, D.C. As a public historian with extensive experience in museum work, she discusses the distinctions and parallels the approaches to digital and public history. Additionally, she emphasizes the challenges encountered by researchers with non-digital backgrounds in adapting to the field of digital history and the discernment of appropriate application of digital competencies. Lauren also draws attention to the absence of digital training in many humanities study programs.
