Oilers Could Finally Be Players in the Midseason Trade Market
Oilers Could Finally Be Players in the Midseason Trade Market
On Oilersnation Everyday, Liam Horrobin and Michael Menzies discuss Stan Bowman’s comments about the Edmonton Oilers’ salary-cap situation heading into the 2026–27 season and why keeping some cap space available could be a major advantage for the team. Bowman has indicated that he would like the Oilers to enter the season with some flexibility instead of using every dollar of available cap space before opening night. Liam and Michael break down why that strategy could allow Edmonton to become a factor in the trade market later in the season. If a team suddenly needs to move a player in November or December, the Oilers could potentially have the flexibility to take on a player making around $2 million to $2.5 million. In previous seasons, Edmonton often couldn't even enter those conversations because of their tight cap situation. Now, having room could give Bowman opportunities to make a move that simply wasn't available to him before. The guys discuss why patience could be the key for Edmonton and how having money available at the right time might allow the Oilers to capitalize when another NHL team is forced to make a trade. Could the Oilers' biggest offseason move actually come during the season? 💬 Would you rather see the Oilers spend their remaining cap space now, or keep it available for a November or December trade? 💰 Stan Bowman wants to keep cap space available—and Liam & Michael think it could be HUGE! 👀 Could the Oilers finally have the flexibility to make a midseason trade? 🔥 A $2M–$2.5M player becomes available in November… could Edmonton finally be in the conversation? 🏒 The Oilers couldn't make these trades in previous years. Could their cap space change that? 🚨 Don't expect Edmonton to spend every dollar before opening night! 💬 Would you save the cap space for a midseason opportunity or make a move now? #LetsGoOilers #OilersNation #OilersnationEveryday #EdmontonOilers #ConnorMcDavid #LeonDraisaitl #JasonDemers #PacificDivision #SanJoseSharks #VegasGoldenKnights #LosAngelesKings #AnaheimDucks #NHL #StanleyCup #TylerYaremchuk #HockeyTalk #NHLNews #OilersFans #YEGHockey

Every Possible Opponent for the Oilers in Playoffs’ First Round – The Hockey Writers – Edmonton Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers clinched a berth in the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs on Saturday (April 11) when the Winnipeg Jets were defeated 7-1 by the Philadelphia Flyers. With 90 points from a record of 40-30-10, the Oilers currently sit second in the Pacific Division standings and are guaranteed at least a wild-card berth. The 2026 NHL Playoffs are set to begin on April 18. Edmonton will be competing in the NHL postseason for the seventh straight year and 28th time in franchise history. But with only two games remaining on their schedule and just five days left in the 2025-26 NHL regular season, the Oilers could still finish anywhere from atop their division standings to in the Western Conference’s second wild-card position.
