Finally, as one advances in university broader affairs, it's important to learn and respect the value of different field metrics. For example, scientists value journal articles, but engineers value conference proceedings, humanities profs value books, and artists value public displays. -JDC

Specific STEM metrics could be: having skills / experience in critical areas, quality of training, pubs (yes), funding, awards, academic talks, public engagement, supervision / teaching experience, non-academic partners, research / teaching statements, references...but each discipline is different.

We can't just rely on subjective opinions, because those are always biased. In my hiring experience, which is pretty extensive, the best way is to agree on a broad set of weighted metrics from the outset, apply them consistently and equally, and then adjust for EDI considerations.
