When the Nobel Prize for Literature is announced, I have one of two responses. Either it's someone I have not heard of, in which case I learn about a great new writer, or else I think, "Oh, well deserved." Anne Carson--well deserved.

He's right. My book Shibboleth, several years old, retelling some of the more barbaric Bible stories: Samson, Jephthah, and King Saul, as well as Amos
Just as an intermittent reminder: Please yell about any book you've written. Even if it was released long ago. The people who aren't interested will scroll by. But at least some people who would be interested and otherwise weren't aware of it will see it.

I've started reading John McPhee's Annals of the Former World. Oh, what gorgeous prose--the rhythms of his paragraphs, the sudden shifts of tone and vocabulary, the surprises he embeds in his sentences, the utter flamboyance everywhere.
