I wrote in March: Feminism is far from dead, but people love to write its obituary. I’ve lived through dozens of them over the decades, and there’s been a fresh flurry over the past few years....
The one thing everyone gets wrong about feminism
People love to declare the death of the women’s movement, pointing to the ‘failure’ of #MeToo or the Epstein files, but don’t give up the fight just yet, writes Rebecca Solnit

The conflation of AI-critical with technophobic is tactical & infuriating. While accusing us of just knee-jerk hating tech, they’re enshittifying search engines, degrading digital archives, sundowning or enclosing popular tools, etc. We were all happily using that tech!
The thing about the people who insist that AI will "revolutionise" my teaching in history classrooms if I would just be open-minded is that there is existing tech that I do already teach with.
I use digital mapping tools to map the Black Death, annotation technology, 3D printing to build exhibits.

rejecting AI isn’t a failure to prepare children for an “inevitable” future, it’s a vital statement of belief in our agency to chose a future for them, rather than letting it be dictated to us by a small group of the richest men, who are increasingly - I wish this was just hyperbole - openly fascist
I am so pleased we have Daniel Susskind writing for us today about LLMs, parenting and learning (and not just because he mentions my little project PlotLines). It’s essential we have informed, balanced dialogues about GenAI’s strengths and weaknesses www.theguardian.com/technology/2...
I’m a father of three who studies the impact of artificial intelligence: this is what parents need to know about AI
A Dr Seuss-style story written in seconds alerted me to the power – and perils – of the technology. But how can children embrace it without forgetting core skills?

Pin this, save it, we’ll need it.

“When a prison camp opens in your town…when a DREAMer is disappeared from your classroom…when the President destroys what’s left of the Constitution…They will all say they didn’t know this was coming. And I want the American people to know that they did.”

We couldn't see this coming? The Kennedy Center is on the Potomac waterfront. He probably wants to put a crappy golf resort there. He's using slumlord tactics -- cause a property to degrade, then declare it derelict in order to circumvent laws governing what can/can't be done with it.

So when you say:

"Don't sell through Amazon. Sell through bookshops."

What I hear is:

"Please surrender more than half of your already tiny income, because that makes me feel better about where I shop."

That's not solidarity with workers, Comrades.

Tales of everyday corruption.

Pete Hegseth cancelled the $400,000 contract for making uniforms for the Blue Angels on the grounds that the contract with "The Sewing Box" was DEI since the firm is Black-owned.

Instead, he awarded it to a Trump donor for $1,690,000, a 325% price increase!

JD Vance: "I think Nixon's historical legacy is enjoying a bit of a renaissance, and deservedly so. I joked that if Watergate happened tomorrow, it would be like a 12 hours news story. The idea that it took down a presidency is crazy."

If pocket calculators regularly and randomly gave you incorrect answers to your queries like ChatGPT does, we would have left the technology behind, not insisted that 2+2=5 is HERE TO STAY, BABY.
Funny, that’s what we thought about pocket calculators in 1974

But that Russia *did* meddle to help Trump win.

Wow; a 5th-century East Germanic tribe snuck in and cut a 250-foot… 300-foot… 350-foot… 900-foot gash in a pool that is under 24-hour surveillance, without being spotted.
Trump: "We drained the beautiful 'Reflecting Pool' today in order to fix the scars and damage that was done by the Vandals 2 weeks ago. We wanted to wait until after July 4. The slashes were 300 yards long, and the floor of the pool was cut and then pulled upward, with great force, by these thugs."
