I'd try isopropyl alcohol, then perhaps acetone (though the latter can wreak havoc on plastics).

The photos of civilians walking past blown-out buildings and soldiers playing baseball next to the bomb-wracked bleachers are really powerful - and highlight how lucky we've been in North America to fight our wars in distant places.
