Well. I've had a big writing-related fear realized.

Onto the next.

One of the things I am beginning to find more and more boring about "compare the stated policies of politicians as if you are picking them out of a catalog" is that it doesn't really capture something else. This used to get called "character" but I hate the way that gets deployed.

found the perfect epigraph for this book:
"If we live out our span of life on the earth without ever knowing a crab intimately, we have missed a good friendship" - William Beebe, 1932

This Is Just To Say

I have turned off
the AI features
that were in
the update

and which
you were probably
hoping
to monetize

so unnecessary
and so annoying

So if AI Psychosis is a thing that happens because the human mind breaks when it's trapped by a sycophant who affirms every thought, agrees with every delusion - does this give us a window into what's been happening into the ultra rich , and why they're such broken people?

I'll be honest, saying that any event "has deeply divided lawmakers" is meaningless now. I need journalists and pundits to be more specific. Has it divided *conservative* lawmakers? That's potentially useful information. But "lawmakers" are divided by everything, every day, along party lines.

it is UNREASONABLY cold in my magic coffee shop today, really putting me in an uncomfortable zone. Immersive though. This is what post-apocalyptic Siberia is like for sure

Of all the easy things you can do to help the environment, conserve water for communities not corporations, not perpetuate scams, support the labor and rights of creators... *not* using generative AI is the fucking easiest. You absolutely deserve to be shamed for using it for image and text creation

the "anti-ai is gatekeeping" thing pops up like once ever 3 - 6 months and it's always silly and i hope the people who post it like it's some kind of ~revolutionary message~ are deeply embarrassed

'Why aren't they in the streets' is answered almost every day in my small town by people in the streets! Rather than asking 'why aren't they in the streets' it's worth asking 'why isn't your media showing them in the streets' and 'who is served by downplaying resistane in its myriad forms.'
The idea that there are no protests in the US and no one is standing up to Trump is proving incredibly hard to kill over here in Germany. It’s become dogma, utterly detached from empirical reality.

I wonder if the people who keep talking like that understand they’re perpetuating regime propaganda.

Oh, look, I'm a western RPG person

To be clear, this goes for the whole Mass Effect trilogy--I'm in the middle of replaying 3 now, in fact--but I used the art for 2 as a stand-in because it's my favorite (and it's not close).

The book I'm rewriting is sapphic as hell, so naturally I went digging through Hozier's discography to add to its playlist, and I accidentally loaded it with songs that make me fixate on my space horror instead

In 2026: Generative AI is not inevitable. You can say no. You can refuse. You can reject the disgusting lukewarm slop that the richest and worst people in the world are trying to force-feed you. You can tell them to eat shit and die mad. You can break the machine

So I used to draw ALL THE TIME, and I've really fallen off the past several years. My goal for 2026 is to produce 12 whole pieces of illustrative art in any medium. That should be manageable as fuck, but I know I have to set my sights low to hit the goal.

In 2025, I wrote a SF/H-ish short story that I'm genuinely very proud of. I revised it, had some folks beta read it, took notes on a final revision, made a list of places I wanted to submit it.

And then I just quietly self-selected out of submissions. Now all those markets are closed. I am a goober

Maybe the cultural concept of a new year's resolution is just ingrained in my brain now, but I do find this liminal space between xmas and January 1 transformative. It is a lawless time, there is no need to leave my house, so I might as well rearrange my room so I have room for yoga

fun fact: KALEO has released two (2) albums since the last time I listened to them, and they're good

Okay.

Okay.

I have a cold, and the common courtesy not to take it to my magical coffee shop. So today, I am promising myself a reward if I can get two scenes rewritten at home. This task has proven nigh impossible in recent months. But today, I will do it.

Timer starts now. #amwriting
