I also worked at a theater for my first job. Sometimes it was a nightmare (a lot more death than one would expect) but I met some of the best people Ive ever known there. And getting promoted to projectionist was a blast until it became obsolete.

On a future revisit Id recommend the audiobook read by Richard Poe. Dude really understands McCarthy's cadence.

Depends on my mood. Usually Tom Waits, The Mountain Goats, David Bowie. If I don't want lyrics Khurangbin is a good fit or I listen to movie scores.

To each their own on that but I think its more interesting if the paranoia runs so deep you cant even truly trust yourself

That's sort of how the actors played their parts. I remember seeing an interview with Charles Hallahan who said he played it as if his character (who was the Thing at the time) had no actual idea if he was The Thing or not. He was a perfect copy and until survival depended on it stayed hidden.
