Nick Bougas has apparently died. under the pseudonym ‘A. Wyatt Man’ he created the antisemitic caricature of a Jewish man, printed in neo-Nazi Tom Metzger’s WAR paper, which later became a central far right meme called the ‘Happy Merchant’. you’ll recognise it when you see it. rest in piss, etc

The 1926 General Strike around the Elephant & Castle Amended text of a walk organsied by past tense in May 2026 around the Elephant area, attended by some 60 people. Start: The Obelisk, St George’s Circus In the aftermath of World War 1, as the British war economy was returned to ‘peacetime’ working conditions, the early 1920s saw a mass economic slump, with mass unemployment and an onslaught of employers against workers, in a struggle to reduce wages and conditions. In parallel with this, the mass slaughter and disillusion arising from the war, and the influence of the 1917 Russian Revolution, had created a militant generation which saw the possibility of positive social change and was prepared to strike en masse to try to achieve better lives.
