Why is any of that a surprise? They are tactically aligned with Democrats because they oppose Trump, but they are still conservatives who see the world that way: people like them are key swing state votes, progressives like El-Sayed are (for them) an electoral risk with little upside, etc.

The ads aren’t aimed at the hardcore MAGA cult. They are for pre-MAGA habitual Republicans who are fed up with Trump but need a push to break the habit and vote for a Democrat.

What are you talking about? They do it ALL THE TIME. The problem is that some actions (confirming appointments, some budget bills) require 51 votes to kill and there are only 47 Democratic and Dem-friendly Senators.
