Luna, Asbury Hall at Babeville, Buffalo, NY.

Unfortunately, Britta was not able to convince the rest of the band to dump the setlist songs for the encore and play Marquee Moon instead.

Great show, anyway.

St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Borderland Festival, East Aurora, NY.

This was fantastic. I would totally go see this band on purpose.

Olmsted Dub System, Borderland Festival, East Aurora, NY.

Getting a late start today. They were playing Pink Floyd when we walked up, Radiohead now.

The Sideways, Borderland Festival, East Aurora, NY.

They didn't have the horn section when they opened for The New Mastersounds last year. I see the sax player play jazz locally all the time.

It's Music Is Art festival day. I haven't been since 2019? The last few years I've been otherwise engaged on the day. Anyway, lots bands you've never heard of incoming.

I only drove halfway home from the fair because I'm getting too old for these late night drives. Put the Phish show on when I got tired of what was playing on the radio and the first Phish I've listened to in ages ended up being about 25 minutes of that Down with Disease jam. I must have flipped […]

JBQ (John Bacon Quintet), Duende at Silo City, Buffalo, NY.

Back on my bullshit. It's jazz Sunday. Last Sunday of the month is always John Bacon and I'm here if I can be.

Garden update: Edamame almost ready to harvest. Beans are flowering. The last tomato plant finally has almost ripe tomatoes. In other news, I should have staked the large amaranth plants because two were seriously damaged by wind. I finally got a squash […]

The Mountain Goats, Town Ballroom, Buffalo, NY

One of the best shows I've seen them play. I really enjoyed all the new songs.

John Darnielle talked about coming to the realization that 5/9/77 Buffalo is better than Cornell.

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of my first Phish shows by going to see live music. Last night was sort of a jam band. In the early Pink Floyd/Velvet Underground way more than the Dead. Tonight very much not that.

Prison, The Bug Jar, Rochester, NY

This is from last night. Couldn't post because my phone died right at the end of the set. Amazing show. The other bands were good, too.

They're playing a live session on The Frow Show on WFMU tomorrow night at 9pm EST.

Spent the day checking out people's food gardens, a nature center, and a community garden on Urban Farm Day. Last year inspired me to double the size of my garden by building raised beds in the front yard.

I've met more of my neighbors while working out front in the garden than I had in eight […]

Cleaned up the strawberry bed today. It was very overgrown and I've been having a fruit rot problem. Before the last week, I was getting a pound about every eight days.

I rode my bike downtown to the harbor to buy this beer.

Soon I'll be posting about my garden again.

Really glad I skipped Phish in Syracuse. It's always a bummer to see the mediocre show they played when they were saving up for the special show.

The main reason I skipped is that I'm not sure they're capable of playing a one-off show that's worth traveling for anymore. Or at least not […]

Excellent read. And a good rejoinder when idiots say they wish government services were run more like a for-profit business.

Private equity feels like an elaborate pyramid scheme, where consumers and employees suffer so that shareholders can be enriched.

I got to ride on the Skyway today. I always miss this ride because I have to go to the big law library conference. This is the last year they're doing it and I was able to skip the conference.

Last time I was at a game at Citi Field, the #mets were two months into a losing season. That night, they managed a sloppy win over Arizona at what ended up being the beginning of a huge turnaround. When we decided to go to last night's game, I said that probably wasn't happening again.

After […]
