🇫🇮⚓️The FITBURG anchor-dragging trial promises to be more entertaining than anything so far.
Remember the ship sporting the German WWII submarine symbol? Well, it was also flying a Finnish flag...

Meanwhile the Russian captain claims his ship had nothing to do with the damage, despite all evidence.

New developments in Eagle S Case!
Major subsea cable news from Finland.

An appeals court has reversed Helsinki District Court's decision from last year and ruled that the case of the Eagle S - which struck five cables on Christmas Day 2024 - can be prosecuted under Finnish law.

More will certainly follow.

Submarine cable failure due to coastal erosion has taken out nearly all internet services for Russia's Kamchatka peninsula.

~300,000 residents are cut off while Rostelecom divers work to repair the connection which is down for the second time this year.

No good news for subsea cables: Houthi attacks on surface vessels may lead to simultaneous outages due to anchor drags (see MV Rubymar incident in early 2024) and repair delays in Red Sea. Especially Eastern African connectivity with fewer redundancies would be at risk in this scenario.

There has been a subsea data cable system „Aletar“ fault close to Syrias coast off Tartous on Sunday. Sabotage has been suspected by Syrian authorities but not proven.
Rerouting works, but recognizable traffic drops. The cable is from 1997, one of the oldest lit subsea cables.
The subsea cable linking Syria to Egypt was severed yesterday (Jun-14) at 18:50 UTC — part of what is being called a "systematic sabotage campaign" against the nation's infrastructure.

Overall traffic dropped, routes shifted from Telecom Egypt (AS8452) at the time of the cut.
