I've not played many of them, only two fully. It's a good series but I've just never really played a lot on Nintendo after the N64

The Switch game is pretty good, worth a try at least

No there was a few before this one but it's probably the first that a lot of people played and was the first 3D game in the series

Halloween does have a single player mode but yeah, it's pretty bare bones.
I love the multiplayer aspect of these games but would definitely like to see properly fleshed out single player games using some horror IP's

Scare wise I'd say the original is somewhere in the middle really.
It's nowhere near as scary as games like Alien Isolation, Outlast, Silent Hill 2, etc...
Overall as a game it's just as good as all the best scary games though, you won't regret playing it

I enjoyed it a lot but felt like some of the fear factor had worn off with age

Did you play the original? I found it held up well but kinda lost a bit of its fear factor due to age (for me at least)
This remake though, it's dripping in atmosphere and feels terrifying already
