“we know that within about a year of those cuts at USAID, where they were literally burning food that had already been paid for that was going to starving children, 500,000 children died. So this is a really a crime against humanity.” - Alex Gibney, director of “Musk”, a documentary on Elon Musk

This looks like an incredible role for anyone in Web and UX leadership

The past week, and yesterday in particular, were brutal for chip stocks.

Anthropic’s slowing revenue growth has added to investors’ fears that AI companies won’t generate enough revenue to justify the trillions being committed to data centers.

A very dotcom bubble shaped pattern is forming 🫧

The U.S. economy is in a weird position. The major bright spot is the AI boom, but that boom depends on companies laying people off and replacing them with Claude subscriptions, which depresses the economy.

It’s essentially a doom loop.

Most mergers destroy shareholder value but even then, this is an incredible amount of value destruction by the Ellisons.

Skydance’s market cap is now less than half what Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery were worth before the merger.

While many believe AI token prices will go up over time, they’ve actually been getting cheaper as competition from open weight models puts pressure on the pricing from frontier labs.

Additionally, developers seem to have little qualms around switching models.

So far, no one seems to have a moat.

Anthropic published a report on how AI has changed employment at the company.

The share of junior technical hires fell from 27% to 9%. Like everyone else in tech.

Employees are more productive and no one has the time to review the output from Claude. Also like everyone else.

The new normal.

2028? How stupid are you?

2038 is more likely.

Why is this man never held to account for his track record? His record for faking public demonstrations, his record for delivering products years and years late, his record for hawking products that never hit the market anything like he marketed them.

Ralph Lauren replaced sustainability targets in executive bonuses with AI adoption targets.

The four AI KPIs were 2 AI training completion rates and 2 employee AI survey response rates. The board approved a +10% bonus modifier for exceeding them.

None measured actual productivity gains from AI. 🤷🏾‍♂️

…okay, I usually know the genre beforehand. But I can’t build a world without knowing who’s in it.
Q1: Do you build your world to suit your story and/or characters or does the world come to you first? #WeeknightWriters
