You are not the storm. You are the sky that the storm passes through.
I think I'm surfacing again now.

So I'm kind of in love with this book.

Slant of Light/Hilig ng Liwanag: Mga piling saling-tula ni Emily Dickinson — Faye Cura

I read a lot for work, or for self-improvement. So when I was asked the other night when the last time I read for pleasure was and I couldn't really remember, I got very sad.

I'm going to remedy that this week.

Some days are a bit much for my highly-anxious mind to navigate.

Tonight I'm orienting to the sound of the rain, and a night bird that's occasionally calling out in the distance.

Small things to anchor me to the present, and to safety.

Facing the cptsd head on by saying, "The suffering was never my identity, only an adaptation."

One day, one hour, one moment at a time.

Over the past few months, I've been writing a lot about my own personal grief. And while I don't intend for anyone else to ever read any of it, I have found it has allowed for so much of it to move through and metabolize much quicker than if I'd just been thinking and feeling through it all.

The cinematography in 10Dance is so gorgeous. It wasn't a perfect adaptation, but it still tugged at my heart.

Over and over again, I'm reminded of how much I love Ted Chiang’s stories.

Today's shoot was hot and tiring, but God, was the sunset after beautiful. 🌻

Developing literacy in your own nervous system is slow and tiring work. All worth it, though.

I've been observing my emotional and somatic states since before my trip, i.e. attempting to not identify with the emotions. Just letting them be.

I'm beginning to realize that the way I experienced myself and the world around me is different from how others experience and move through life.

Post-concert thoughts—

I brought home so much cool stuff. Things that other fans were handing out to people.

The past few years have allowed me to practice and get comfortable with receiving, and not just with material things. Receiving kindness, generosity, friendship, connection, and care.

I couldn't choose, so I made a hybrid packing cube instead. Haha
I'm mostly packed, but since I have no idea if I'll be feeling more femme or not by travel day, I've had to prepare.

I have one packing cube full of flowy blouses, and one full of t-shirts. I figure I'll make the choice which to stuff into my backpack by Thursday night.

Long bus trip in the morning, and I figure I can use the time to work on my course exercises. Because this weekend is for fun, but this month is also for focus. 🙌🏻

Signs I'm healing—

I haven't made callos since the Christmas before she left. I kept telling myself that it was too labor intensive (it is), but the truth is I didn't have the heart to anymore.

Today was the first time I cooked it again in over two years. No real reason. Just because I wanted to.

💯 *sigh*
I don't know that I've ever met a CPTSD survivor who didn't struggle with chronic exhaustion. Dealing with trauma w/ inadequate support for years is its own trauma-- & also makes EVERY cognitive & emotional task on our plate 1,473,993 times more effortful than it should be.

Most of the life changing CPTSD recovery work I do is w/ adults in their 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, & even 70’s.

That voice telling you you're "too old" or it's "too late" to make significant changes in how you feel & function is a f*cking liar.

Some days just feel like this. Still coming to terms with all that was.

"So all of those kind of esoterics aside, April is a month of clear sight. It's a month of understanding. It's a month of illumination for better or for worse, but I think mostly for better.”

Halfway through, and this book is making my heart hurt because it's been forcing me to think about our very real future and what that might look like. But it's also very vivid, complex, and strange in all the ways that tickle my brain.
