Coyote vs. Acme is the most fun I've had at the movies. Its slapstick is delightful, the characters have enough of an arc, and the other Looney Tunes characters' cameos are clever. "What if Wile E. Coyote sued Acme?" is an all-time great premise for a movie.

The Dog Stars has an interesting thematic thread that asks if we need other people for a meaningful life. What is the difference between surviving and living?

Unfortunately, the character development and depiction of the villains were very underwhelming

Tony has a fairly basic maturation plot that hits all the beats, but the reason he finally gives up what he wants reflects antiquated gender dynamics.

Dominic Sessa's performance keeps the audience on his side even as his character is a real jerk.

Every beat on the story’s journey is pretty predictable, but they’re all well-done, and for fans of Anthony Bourdain, Tony will deepen their appreciation of his work and life.

For @midwestfilmjournal.bsky.social's "Class of..." series, celebrating 20th, 30th, or 40th anniversaries, I examine Trainspotting.
30 years on, thanks to income inequality and ever-present despair, choosing life is harder than ever and Trainspotting almost seems optimistic

The End of Oak Street is a silly popcorn flick. Its story is crafted around the images of dinosaurs, which looked better over thirty years ago in Jurassic Park, hunting people in 80s suburbs, but there's no concentration on character or internal logic.
