How about a quick citizens commission (not a lengthy or royal one) on how we can strengthen our democracy? One vote every 5 years is simply not cutting it.

For starters: no donations, state funding only. PR. All meetings between lobbyists and govt to be made public.
Ministers are exploring limiting how much money British political parties can spend *in non-election periods* for the first time, as concerns over the size of gifts grow after two cryptocurrency billionaires pledged £72mn to Reform UK.

There is no middle ground with the kind of people who attack the RNLI.

We don’t need to ‘listen’ to them. We need to tell them where to go.

Different context but I think what I have suggested here about the USA and certainly applies here in the UK might apply in Sweden and probably many other countries

We thought we had made progress in the UK. Now we know they were just hiding

Leopards don't change their spots ⬇️

This kind of prejudice never went away in the USA they just mostly tried to hide it...until Trump came along

Yet another reason why when Trump goes it will not all just return to where it was. The racists are emboldened. They won't slink away quietly
Not only did I meet Robert Kraft, I worked for him.

His kid Jonathan asked me to “remove the black music” from my gameday playlist in ‘94 & I refused so they fired me. I was the cheerleader director at the time.

I sued them for wrongful termination and won.

So yes, I know that motherfucker.

We should ask ourselves why this is something a Labour Prime Minister feels the need to refute. After 16 years of austerity, a tax and spend socialist is just what we need.

What I love about Western democracy is you can bung a political party £ 36 million earned from criminal activity & most media will continue to point at asylum seekers & migrant care workers with families as the barbarians at the gate we need to defend ourselves from 🙄.

Riddle me this. If somebody donates £36 million to a political party and £5 million to its leader, how is the £5 million not political? Asking for a parliamentary standards commissioner.

Sharing this shamelessly because this is the sort of thing that makes up for all the crap I went through writing my book and the awful experience I had with the other people who were supposed to be on my side when writing it.

The balaclava blackshirted thugs are a result of a decade of politicians, tabloids and the broadcast media telling racists they have "legitimate concerns."

The normalisation of actual fascism rhetoric and action has led to this and is a far greater "legitimate concern" than any migrant on a boat.

This week's column is about the Starmer-like self-destruction of the impending decision to approve new oil and gas drilling in the North Sea. It might appease certain lobby groups, but it sabotages Burnham's own project and drives voters away. Utter madness. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

The UK government ceasing automatically to support almost anything the government of Israel does is a major shift. The next step should be to rescind the ban on #PalestineAction, to stop treating protesters as terrorists, and to acknowledge that those seeking to disrupt a genocide may have a point.
