LLMs and generative AI in general are a DDOS attack on human empathy.

(I''m sure someone else has said this before, but I don't want to try to find this so I can boost it.)

Back on my bullshit. This is a test print of the thumb cluster for a Dactyl Manuform style keyboard. Ignore the massive print failure, it detached itself from the bed for some reason, all I wanted to know was whether the keyswitches I bought would […]

More HSBC griping: due to me being on the ball and reporting fraudulent transactions on my card before they went through, then following up once they had been processed and could therefore be disputed, HSBC blocked my replacement card before I received it and suspended my account.

Brilliant.

really and truly tired of seeing people go "the fascist text machine from the megacorps is bad, but i can see a future where a local version of the fascist text machine can be useful" because IT'S STILL THE FASCIST TEXT MACHINE WHEN YOU RUN IT LOCALLY

It's not even "I wrote some software and put it in a product and the product did a harm and I'm maybe fractionally culpable in a way that's really hard to apportion" any more. It's just "I set up a computer to do crimes and I spent ten million dollars on electricity to prove it could do crimes […]

Why does this country hate immigrants so much?

MeshCore day 2:

✅️ am on the MeshCore Australia Discord
✅️ have received messages I didn't send
✅️ have about 30 different repeaters on a map covering pretty much all of central Victoria
❎️ I can only confirm that ~1 message out of about 30 has actually be received by a node I don't own

So […]

Card gets skimmed and some asshole makes a donation to Wikimedia, then 14 other random transactions, ~2USD each, mostly to Facebook.

Normally this'd be a pretty minor issue and would get resolved easily, but my card is with HSBC, so...

1. Switch keyboard to GBoard in another app so HSBC's app […]

So I guess it's finally time to actually write this down.

I've spent nearly a week with Meshtastic and I Have Thoughts.

I'm going to split this up into three big components with a bunch of smaller replies to cover more points as this is a big complicated topic. Anything that's starred is […]

Seeing people interact with Sashiko, Linux's (somewhat useless) AI code review bot like it's an actual human reviewer hurts my soul in a way I can't really put into words.

Like, peeps, it isn't reading your email, it isn't going to adjust it's review because you (correctly) told it that it's […]

Man I'm so sick of AI benchmarks lol. You're telling me GPT-6 got 98% on the PissX Ultramark? Well that plus the freaking 812 they pulled on the FPR EufRA EEE 4.2.3 means this thing is really gonna rip. I gotta say though I really was expecting a bigger improvement on the BSMT:3 (Big Scawy Math […]

So let's continue poking at LoRa mesh things.

The big goal is tracking: I have a battery powered node and I want to know where it is in near-realtime.

Meshtastic: this appears to do everything I could want here, will meet my needs, and the hardware that's being shipped to me is supported […]

Who says AI doesn't create new kinds of businesses: I would hire someone to re-transcribe all the LLM output I have to trudge through back into human language. I don't have trouble with the volume, I can just feel my brain trying to eject my temporal lobes out my ears as each passing word makes […]

Following on from my previous post, I bought an original LilyGo T-Keyboard a while ago and haven't really done anything with it. This is an ESP32-C3, the standard Blackberry 10 keyboard everyone uses and a small colour LCD display in a handy 3D printed case. The demo code is an extremely basic […]
