...ok for some reason, Mortal Kombat 9 for me jsut isn't playing the opening cutscene or Johnny vs. Reptile fight when I select story mode. It jsutnstarts at Johnny about to fight Baraka. Playing on Steam Deck btw

One of my favorite bits of disc space trivia is that Super Mario Galaxy 2 is only ~1.2 GB, and almost 3/4ths of that is uncompressed music

Many games for the GameCube use only a fraction of the storage capacity of the disc. I have analyzed the data to determine what the maximum number of retail Mario games that can fit on a single disc would be, creating the Luigi & Wario + Puzzle + Rhythm Maximum Value Pack.
A GameCube disc has a storage capacity of 1.46 gigabytes. Many Mario games use only a fraction of that storage. Below is the optimal distribution of the smallest Mario-related games on the system to fit 6 entire retail games on a single disc. Unused space 54 MB Luigi's Mansion 186 MB DDR Mario Mix 264 MB Wario World 257 MB Donkey Konga 2 312 MB Donkey Konga 250 MB Please note that this pie chart is for data visualization only. If the games were in fact put on one disc, the data would be arranged in rings, not in slices. Concept for post based on an idea from a comment by @vinchvolt.bsky.social

I'd like to point to one very specific reason, which is L5 removing Nintendo as a producer on YKW after the series' release. In this moment, I no longer remember if it was after 1 or after 2, but it should be a matter of public record. Nintendo asked for a large portion of YKW's profits in return for publishing the game, a typical set up for this sort of thing. In short, it meant that Nintendo helped advertise the game in return for a cut. L5 felt they, uh, wanted more, so they axed Nintendo. (To be specific, they thought the cut was too big.)
