enough people do heavy work in shitty boots vs good boots that it isn't really just vibes, that is roughly how the numbers work out (with the added benefit of being able to resole and keep using the more expensive boot).

Do you not understand that this entire thought experiment is predicated on heavy use of the good in question? If you are using the hell out of your home refrigerator (say, running a catering business out of it) you could absolutely see the same value
