I’m guardian of my cousin, Pam. She participated in Special Olympics for many years and went to Ireland in the 90’s. When she won international gold, she left the medal for her horse because “He did the hard work”

25 years ago, almost every plane that was over the North Atlantic when the second tower was hit was forced to land in Newfoundland. A call was on the radio: they needed folks who spoke various languages to come to the stadium to help organize the sea of humanity that just showed up at our door.

I think the Black-billed Magpies have gotten sick of hearing me gush over how gorgeous the Common Grackles are.

Eunice Kennedy Shriver founded the Special Olympics in 1968.

What she started as a backyard project grew into a global phenomenon. The first Special Olympics hosted 1,000 athletes in Chicago. Today, it supports millions of athletes across >170 countries

An cluster of vibrant, star-shaped tomato flowers forms the focal point, growing closely together on a network of fuzzy green stems. The flowers are a bright, cheerful lemon-yellow color. Each blossom has five to six pointed, star-like petals that flare outward. In the center of each star, the petals taper into a small, forward-pointing cone where the pollen forms. There are over a dozen distinct blossoms open simultaneously in this dense cluster. The flowers dangle gracefully from thin stems, some facing forward and others angled downward. The stems supporting the flowers are bright green and visibly covered in tiny, fine hairs. Behind and beneath the blossoms, rich green tomato leaves with deeply notched, jagged edges provide a dense background. The plant looks exceptionally full and vigorous, capturing the lively essence of my thriving balcony garden.
