I stand by it: Surprise!Inviting people to plans with friends/family is Jail Time, for me. I agreed based on the original plan. I don't want to Suffer or be the person who has to cancel last minute, when I find out you secretly invited someone I can't stand or who completely changes the dynamic.

Low down payments? For first-time homebuyers in a competitive market, with high prices/rates? Funny. A bunch of us need to fork over well over $100k just to close on a starter home, then expect major repairs with our giant mortgage payments (+ good luck getting a place without waiving inspections).

A big 🖕 to all the "friends" I've had who hated to see me win. Cannot relate. I got a voice note from my bestie about some of her good news today, and I declared "I FEEL LIKE IT'S *$@&ING CHRISTMAS". Multiply your joy exponentially by feeling happy for your friends.

Sure, you might have some luck, but you aren't successful because you're lucky. You're successful because you made sure you were ready for your opportunity. You made the most of it, when it arrived. You worked for and with and through it.

Is she Difficult or did she ask a simple, reasonable question you couldn't answer and refuse to investigate?

Back in the day, when academia was trying to squash my creativity, I worked on some really cool illustration concepts. There were so many narrative sketches like new mythologies about creativity, inner worlds, sisterhood, etc. I love my more symbolic/abstract work, but I do miss that. 💜

The actual Math on raising your rate as a self-employed creative? I can work 24hr less this month + match my highest grossing month in '25. When I decided to be bold + slightly increase the base rate I chose for '26 at the last second? The difference is $650 so far this month. Raise your rate.

Sometimes I get frustrated with Logistics and Timeline and Everything. Then I remember I'm successfully self-employed, buying myself a house is within reach, I've done things other people can only dream of, and I've won every battle so far. It's all relative. Gotta zoom out once in a while.

I wanna be friends with all of the charismatic bad bitches who end up cleaning dishes at house parties/dinners—not because they're Socially Drained but because they hate the idea of the host having to deal with that shit later (We can yap AND wash dishes, okay?).

How do you say "I'm a self-employed contractor, you haven't booked my time, you have no deadline, and I'm busy with urgent work for your team and others, so if you keep pinging me within an hour of sending a request with NO explanation of WHY I will cry and otherwise be upset with you" in Corporate?

I'm pretty sure I'm never taking an indie project with a micro budget again, and that's really upsetting me. I want to be able to support those projects, but I can't do it if the clients are going to be so severely disrespectful and go so far out of scope that they ought to multiply the budget 10x.

A service I won't offer: You Try to Design It, I Fix It.

Want to do it yourself? Go for it! If you want a graphics expert to make the graphics, let them handle it—not AI, not your editor, not the random fella who had an idea, etc. Treating experts like button-pushers doesn't really work for anyone.

Too many pros in #creativeadvertising hide incompetence behind the Idea or Creative Vision. They aren't makers, but they'll insist on prioritizing Creative Integrity over strategy, operations, etc...while ignoring what the makers need from them. It's a Downplay What You Don't Understand tactic.

Welp. I was going to apply for a Principal Art Director role (because I occasionally still explore staff roles and why not), but the pay is very low, and they require each applicant's residential address just to apply. Weird behavior. No, thanks!

I will never even TRY to have one distinct style. I’m not living my creative life in a box just to be understood by someone else’s Target Audience or Ideal Market. I’m for the ever-evolving weirdos. The chaos is the point.

Marketers Who Don't Understand Graphics Please Stop Making Fake Social Media Safe Area Charts, 2026. Executives think you know what you're talking about, and it's creating chaos for the folks who have to design quality gfx for global campaigns.

Caught a fella posting on LinkedIn about how experience is overrated. That's true sometimes, but I worked with him. No one knew what his job was. He had a senior title + approx. no knowledge of the work (BIG problems). We don't need to brag about not knowing the basics after years in the game.

A tip: If a highly qualified, experienced professional agrees to take your low budget project for an extremely reduced rate and gives extra support...doooon't insult them. The boldness with which folks who don't understand design/animation will criticize an expert never ceases to amaze me.

Confession: I'm Bothered when people say "usdeddick" instead of "aesthetic" and call things "aesthetic" (e.g. "That's so aesthetic", not "modernist aesthetics" or "aesthetic qualities"). No, I don't need an explanation about how language and linguistics work. It's just a peeve.

What if a round of tarot-based commissions, though? 👀 I loved the memento vitae-themed commissions I did years ago (2018 WHAT). It's a LOT of fun to compose private commissions full of someone's personal symbolism, within a set theme/structure.

Except you ARE sacrificing quality and removing craft, Mr. Scorsese, in ways that extend beyond one project—especially if you promote this. Allowing pros to do what they do & understand best is not just "wear and tear on the crew". It's their hard-won job & valuable contribution.
SCORSESE, on AI:

“.. with this tool, I can share what I’m visualizing more clearly and efficiently to my creative team — the production designer, art designer, and cinematographer — .. without sacrificing quality or craft.”
