"I want people to be safe and protected. I want to live on the right side of history. I am an immigrant. My parents are refugees from Chile. We fled a dictatorship and I was privileged enough to grow up in the United States after asylum in Denmark. I stand by those protections, always."

Working past my instinctive outrage to the point where you she that’s the reaction this is designed to provoke. They’re trying to normalize depraved, undemocratic conduct by the executive branch so people will stop noticing. Once you see that, you realize how important our outrage is. Keep it up.
Kristi Noem has been working with the producer of “Duck Dynasty” to pitch a reality TV show—titled “The American”—where immigrants will compete in a string of challenges across the country “for the honor of fast-tracking their way to U.S. citizenship,” according to a new report.
Noem Plots Reality Show Where Migrants Fight for Citizenship
A Homeland Security official told the Daily Beast that the show is in the early stages of vetting, though approval has not been given—or denied.

Bezos announced WaPo opinions will “be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets.” There are deep problems with such an approach. Here I propose to the WaPo an oped about just what it would mean to support freedom

my favorite CIA fact that puts many of its early/deranged activities (e.g. MK Ultra, agents putting psychedelics in each other's coffee cups) in important context is that it was formed only in 1947. it was less than 20 years old when JFK was killed, younger than homeland security is today
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a declassified World War II-era CIA guide to sabotaging fascism in the workplace has become one of the most popular free ebooks on the internet:

I know nothing about this stuff, but it's fascinating, like what the mRNA vaccines are becoming to viruses, this could be to online monopolies.
The looming #TikTok ban and the flight from #Instagram are driving a ton of new innovation on the social web right now. The ability to take an entire walled garden experience and just make it a feed on AT Proto is mind blowing. Custom feeds on the social web are the future.
Welcome to SkyTok, a custom feed that works like TikTok with a twist. Shows videos tagged with #SkyTok (NSFW not allowed) + trending videos on Bluesky.

Next version will include videos from people in your network + ability to vote up vids.

Meta now allows women to be called ‘property’ and LGBTQ+ folks labeled ‘mentally ill.’ Watching people justify staying on Meta —‘It’s just where everyone is!’—is wild. At what point do convenience and connection outweigh complicity in a system harming the most vulnerable? Asking for humanity.
Meta’s new hate speech rules allow users to call LGBTQ people mentally ill
Changes to its hate speech guidelines were among broader policy shifts Meta made to its moderation practices.

Jeff Bezos never wanted this cartoon to become public.

He killed it, and as a result, pulitzer prize editorial cartoonist Ann Telnaes quit.

Make sure everyone sees this cartoon.

Thank goodness for people like former WAPO cartoonist @anntelnaes.bsky.social, American hero. This may only be the rough of the cartoon she planned to run before she was told she couldn't, but it speaks volumes, perhaps, especially in this form.

There’s a great story to be told here by reporters: interviewing Republican Sen. McCormick’s family on why they voted for Harris. But this generation of political reporters seems so interested in presenting a close election as a blowout & so uninterested in Harris voters that it won’t happen.
These girls came with a Republican but told Kamala they voted for her and asked for a solo pic with her, lmao.

"We voted for you!"
"I could tell!"
