Some kind of doctor. Will work for plants. And books. And wine.
Next up, to finish out the 1980s for the #PairedDecades challenge, another #NewToMe feature: The Wind, starring that lady with the super light blue eyes that got a lot of parts in gothic and noir-ish TV stuff. #61MoviesOfHalloween #Movie17 @republicandalek.bsky.social

Going with an older one myself for #Movie16 and in honor of my family trip to Illinois yesterday, it's 1957's Beginning of the End! If I've seen this one before, I've repressed all memory of it. Giant locusts menace Chicago! #61MoviesOfHalloween

Well, mostly made up for those things. Anyway, for #Movie15, I'm going with that classic genre: slapstick mystery thriller, with 1941's The Ghost Train. 10 minutes in and I gotta say, I'm not sure the humor lands in quite the same way 85 years on. #61MoviesOfHalloween @republicandalek.bsky.social

It's been too long since I watched it, I have no answers. I do have #Movie14 though, a short called Skinwalker. A little uneven but the ending made up for the iffy acting, too dark cinematography, and how the filmmakers' reluctance to explain anything felt frustrating rather than suspense-building.

I’m going to have to go with 4.
September 14, 2026 at 2:41 AM
It was... well, the name gives it a little away. It didn't entirely live up to the promise of the first third but I am easily swayed by "driving down wooded country lanes in the gloaming" footage so don't go by me. It's not 16 minutes well-spent but I'm not wishing I could have them back either.

Clearly I needed a palate cleanser and banking another one is just good practice, so I followed that with the short film "Again". 16:19 in duration and the credits start at 16:00 so we're good on time. This was part of a "best horror shorts of 2026" playlist on YouTube. #Movie13 #61MoviesOfHalloween

Sorry, that was totally the wrong link, that was a copy-paste from earlier in the day when I was working. Here's the right one!

Seriously, what tf did I just watch?? I just... I have no idea. I think the "Critical Response" section of this Wikipedia article, while more positive that I would have been and more coherent than the movie deserves, sums it up adequately:

Richard Moll does show up as a fun recurring motif so it does have that going for it. #Movie12 #61MoviesOfHalloween @republicandalek.bsky.social

Not sure even Joe Bob would want to prolong the experience of this one. It's so so bad. And don't even get me started on the weird music video going on in the connecting story. #61MoviesOfHalloween

Well, at least that's surreal. In Night of the Big Heat, after an entire movie of build up, after killing off almost everyone, when the situation looks the most dire for Our Intrepid, Um, People, the aliens are vanquished by.... rain. It just... rains on them. #61MoviesOfHalloween

Correction! This movie was cobbled together with pieces of unfinished horror and porn movies. Not even sure Joe Bob could count all the breasts in this movie. #Movie12 #61MoviesOfHalloween @republicandalek.bsky.social

While I'm waiting for "more on The Prophecy", #Movie12 tonight is Night Train to Terror, because someone actually said "hey we have all these unfinished/unreleased horror movies, let's cobble them together into one movie!" and I somehow missed it. #61MoviesOfHalloween @republicandalek.bsky.social

My first movie from the 60s is #Movie11 and is also, somehow, new to me! Night of the Big Heat, starring that madcap duo Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. It also has one of the best Italian movie posters I've seen. #61MoviesOfHalloween

Well, I too have a list. Except it’s more of a spreadsheet really. I like tabs.
September 10, 2026 at 4:52 AM
Both of them qualify as "genuinely regarded as folk horror" and "new to me", which means I have ticked 3 of those 4 boxes. And it's only September 9th! #61MoviesOfHalloween

I'm not sure how I feel about haunted spoons. I'm also not sure how I feel about the two films I watched today, both from an old BBC program called Play for Today. Banking one for future unforeseen circumstances - #Movie9 was Robin Redbreast and #Movie10 was Penda's Fen. #61MoviesOfHalloween

Wandered into the Middleton Historical Museum today and found this seasonally appropriate HAIR WREATH because the past was creepy AF.

Speaking of silly, my #Movie8 is the Rifftrax version of The Beast of the Yellow Night. Unfortunately, it doesn't qualify as a Creature Feature, and I'm considering suing... someone... for false advertising. #61MoviesOfHalloween
