40k is big enough that it can afford assholes and lose out on great interested people. Smaller games and smaller communities are usually far more welcoming to everyone out of necessity. Either that or they die out.

A few years ago, I played in a big Warmachine tournament, the Bokur Brawl, with a trans woman named Emily. She wore a mask as it was right after covid, but everyone seemed very welcoming toward her. I don't know much else about her, but I hope this gives you a bit of hope.
