I do tech, I do design, I do tech design
Seeing the news about passing 1.5c of warming and then seeing people excitedly talk about AI is such a disjointed experience.

Crazy headline that's actually real: What the federal government calls a "North Texas Antifa cell" receives a half-millenium prison sentence:

One thing I really miss from older twitter, and maybe I just haven’t found this part of bluesky, is sharing advice on gamedev, be it blueprint techniques or level / game design advice. Haven’t really seen that.

Genuinely funny that Alito just wrote a whole opinion making clear that the only thing Republicans have to do to gerrymander Black people out of electoral existence is say "this is about politics, not race," and then this genius is like CAN YOU BELIEVE HOW MANY BLACK PEOPLE ARE IN THAT DISTRICT??
Rep. Ralph Norman: "Jim Clyburn, I like him personally, but he does not represent the rest of South Carolina, which is conservative. His district is close to 47% African American."

you promise?
OpenAI must make 10x its current revenue and raise at least $200 billion by 2030 or it will be unable to pay its bills, which will kill Oracle, which will in turn destroy Larry Ellison's wealth.

The warning signs have been there for years.

AI is profoundly unpopular. A recent NBC News poll found that among 18-34 year-olds, AI's net favorability rating is -44. *Negative 44*. Those are basically serial killer numbers. It's not much better among women 18-49. (Men over 50 and upper class are the only ones who like AI, and just barely.)

it's 2016: north carolina introduces a bill to ban trans people from using bathrooms safely. there's a national outcry; companies withdraw business up to and including the NCAA cancelling a publicized game. the bill fails.

it's 2026: kansas passes a law nullifying trans people's licenses. crickets.

If a system produces unjust outcomes time and time again, then we can’t *just* focus on individual cases of injustice. Because there will always be more, and never enough attention to go around for all of them. The entire system has to be reworked and/or abolished.

“Capitalism provides innovation”
If the innovation is creative ways to light money on fire, sure.
That much money financing games by actual game developers would have financed 150+ of the highest budget AAA games, and the several orders of magnitude more jobs to produce them. Instead it was burned failing to produce advertiser-safe Second Life.
Mark Zuckerberg’s gamble on the "Metaverse" has lost his company more than $77 billion.

Hey so, today is my last day at Crystal Dynamics apparently. I joined the company in 2018 to work on Marvel's Avengers and it's been the longest (and best) job I've ever had. It now means I'm looking for work, so if you know of any senior writer/narrative designer positions please send them my way.
