I’ve been back to work at school for weeks but clinging to the last official days of summer break. So many wonderful hikes with beautiful sights in June and July.

Slowly working on reducing noise in my photos. That meant these were pretty dark, still not completely sharp . . . Gonna have to work more on my tripod and remote shutter skillz. Or spend a few more thousand on a new lens idk.

Technically, I think I have to classify these as Danish since their base is puff pastry, but for fun I’m thinking of them as fancy homemade raspberry/almond Pop Tarts.

Sometimes I wonder if any ornithologists listening to my Merlin recordings enjoy the birdsong-Spotify mashups I’ve created, e.g. mourning doves & Morissey, barred owls & LCD Soundsystem, Carolina chickadees & Chicago, white-eyed vireos & Whitney Houston, white-breasted nuthatches & Hole, etc.

Kinda took a break from horror while I was back in school for counseling and getting my first couple years in my new job underway. Am slowly trying to come back to it. Finished this killer read by @keithrosson.bsky.social last night and am so glad good horror didn’t go anywhere while I was gone.

Go hike the other side of the park now that you’re done w/this side, she said. It’ll be fun, she said. 🙃 On the + side, not even 1pm and I’ve already walked 15k+ steps and climbed the equivalent of 69 flights of stairs so gonna eat whatever I want the rest of the day. Drive home also very pretty.

I caught the summer azures puddling this morning by the creek on my Raven Cliff Falls Trail hike.

I caught the summer azures puddling this morning by the creek on my Raven Cliff Falls Trail hike.
Today’s hike rewarded me with the sight of the American Indian ghost pipe plant, which I had only ever seen in pictures. The *huge* body of Bondarzewia guaitecasensis (species of polypore fungus) was incredible, too. I put my lens cap on it for scale; it was at least 2.5 - 3.0ft across and 1ft high.

Caught this osprey over Jellison Cove one morning last week while walking on the beach. Looked like he was carrying a thick twig for his nest away with him.
