Review: Pride at the National Theatre.

Despite my usual sceptical view of musicals this is an absolute joy! It's both funny and deeply moving. I laughed, I clapped along with the tunes and I cried more than once. If this doesn't get a West End transfer then the world's gone mad.

Theatre review - Copenhagen at Hampstead theatre.

Michael Frayn's tale of morality and physics is revived at the Hampstead theatre with an excellent cast and clever design.

3 hours of physics might not be for everyone but beyond that this is an excellent revival.

Film review: Ready or Not Here I Come

More horror comedy from the Radio Silence team as Samara Weaving once again dons her blood soaked wedding dress.

For horror fans the gore is dialed up, whilst the tone remains darkly comic. Recommended for those with strong stomachs and a warped humour.

Summerfolk at the National Theatre

Maxim Gorky's satire of middle class privilege is revived and given a new lease of life with razor sharp edges.

A fantastic ensemble, and an extraordinary set design combines with the witty script to make this an absolute joy.

Our Town at the Rose Theatre Kingston

The new National Theatre of Wales is off to a flier with this excellent production of Thornton Wilder's tale of small town life and death.

Highly recommend.

Film review:
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

Nia DaCosta takes up the directing reigns and creates a much more streamline story.

Ralph Fiennes is outstanding, and Jack O'Connell is terrifying.

The film mixes brutal violence with farce and the best film in the series since the original.

Theatre review:
Went to see Playboy of the Western World at the National Theatre.

It's a strange play, with some great performances and fantastic design but I'm still not sure if I actually enjoyed it.

Theatre review:
High Noon at the Harold Pinter.

Based on the 1950s film with Billy Crudup as the Marshall of a small town facing a notorious gunman due to arrive on the noon train. His new bride, played by the brilliant Denise Gough, wants him to walk away but he just can't.

Theatre recommendation: Went to see Man and Boy at the National Theatre. It's Terence Ratigan so not very cheerful but packs an emotional punch. Ben Daniels is immense as a corrupt oligarch so this is a hard recommend if you fancy something dark and moody.

The latest trip to the theatre was to see Alterations at the National Theatre. It's a drama set in a 1970s tailors as the staff try to fulfil an impossible order.
There are some good laughs along the way, but the final emotional punch isn't entirely believable. Overall, it is a good production.

The Monkey is the latest comedy horror film from Osgood Perkins and is an absolute riot. It is not trying to scare, but the tone and gore are absolutely spot on. Laughed out loud throughout, which might say more about me than the movie. Great fun, if you like that sort of thing.

Went to see Richard II at the Bridge Theatre last night. Jonathan Bailey was excellent with a great supporting cast, and it is a very well staged production. Highlight for me was the appearance of an actual artillery gun!
